About this listen
Samuel Hilty had a secret. He had lived in the community for over 10 years when, at just 18, as a young Amish youth, he had walked into the community one Christmas day where he now lived as a 28-year-old man and had lied about his past to stay in their community.
Since that day, he had been a good and decent man, working to serve Gott and all who needed help both in and outside of their village. The truth that only he and Gott knew was eating away at him inside, though, and he knew things needs sorting.
He was sweet on young Martha King, and he believed that she was sweet on him, too, but he had not made any advances due to his dark secret. If they knew he was an orphan, they would surely cast him out? Whilst taking carvings to town for sale, his past catches up with him and leads him to make huge decisions that affect his future.
A long and tense meeting with the elders culminated in him having to tell the whole community his secret after prayers on Christmas day. Ironic, he thought, that he left his first community on a Christmas day. He had found this community on a Christmas day. And now, his fate lay with the people he loved on Christmas day.
Christmas day came around, and the whole village was in the prayer house. After the service, he took a deep breath and called for attention. Samuel knelt and prayed out loud. What happened next would take him in a direction that would alter his life...forever!
