About this listen
Best-selling author Howard Fast’s straightforward introduction to Zen meditation
Howard Fast began to formally practice Zen meditation after turning away from communism in 1956. The Art of Zen Meditation, originally published by the antiwar political collective Peace Press, in 1977, is the fruit of Fast’s study: a brief and instructive history of Zen Buddhism and its tenets, written with a simplicity that is emblematic of the philosophy itself. Fast’s study of Zen also inspired his popular Masao Masuto mystery series about a Zen Buddhist detective in Beverly Hills, which he published under the pseudonym E. V. Cunningham.

Half great half irrelevant
First half is a great introduction then the second is a largely irrelevant biography

Great Introduction!
Succinct, yet profound and very clear. Excellent! It also includes an interesting mini biography of Howard Fast, for those that are inclined to listen to it.

nothing but click bait to push a Communist agenda
starts a story about Zen, then becomes an MK Ultra experiment in suggestion via linkage. the speaker is suggesting that if you want peace ie Zen, then you have to be a commie.
we can see the state of the world today, where communism is the people suffer.
communism is a cancer and should not be so linked to Zen, meditation or to anything that frees the mind. communism is a cult that imprisons the mind of whoever dives into it. a quagmire of toxicity connected to Zen, is purely political bad science.

At least the book is not that long
He tells a bit about zen meditation, and then suddenly starts a story of a boy growing up, which is far to detailed and long. That was when I lost interest

largely irrelevant
the text-proper is very superficial and short. The author's biography is about half of the text.
