About this listen
Dane Gareis is a wealthy, reclusive young man with a traumatic past, but a spine of steel. When his father is killed in a mysterious plane crash, Dane carries on the family business and continues his passion for the very antiquity that got his father murdered - a golden sarcophagus belonging to an ancient cult known as the Ydrath.
Soon, the Ydrath threaten him as well, and Dane seeks to hire a bodyguard he can trust. Someone who can protect him, and someone who will respect his boundaries. While he gets the first two, the third requirement falls apart when he hires Sean Harding.
Sean Harding is an ex-detective with a sixth sense for danger. After his entire unit was murdered in a drug bust gone very wrong, he is a broken man who thinks only of revenge until he takes the job protecting the Gareis CEO.
Sean's attraction to the vulnerable Dane gives him new purpose, but his past is not escaped so easily, and his sixth sense tells him that there is more to the Ydrath than even Dane knows.

Interesting Story
The concept is interesting, though this is more part 1 of a 3 part story rather than the first book of a trilogy.

My first ever Audio book and it was great!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Artifact to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the book but the audio one had me riveted from the first word.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Artifact?
The end - I was very upset that I have to wait for book two. Apart from that the first meeting between Dale and Sean.
What about Chris Patton’s performance did you like?
His ability to make sure each Character had his/her own voice so that I was never lost as to who was speaking or thinking.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I have no idea I don't watch movies much so I don't know what taglines work.
Any additional comments?
A perefect book to start my listening adventure with.

Fed up of waiting for the story to start
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone looking for detailed gay sex rather than a detective story.
Would you ever listen to anything by X. Aratare again?
No I wouldn't listen again. I got as far as chapter 17 of 18 and the story still hadn't started.
What about Chris Patton’s performance did you like?
The narrator did extremely well portraying the various characters.
What character would you cut from The Artifact?
I thought the characters were very good. I wouldn't cut any of them.
Any additional comments?
I felt the romance was very cheesy, predictable and went on for too long.
