Summary

When Shadeys Bank loses another CEO to a scandal, they are desperate to show they’ve reformed. Who better to present their redemption than a country Vicar?

Reverend Tom Goodman is ousted from his job as a country Vicar for allowing a homeless family to stay in the church hall. Meanwhile, a major bank is trying to rescue its image after the latest in a long string of financial scandals. It seems like the perfect match, and Goodman is hastily appointed as the bank’s new CEO. All they have to do is promote him as their new figurehead whilst also keeping him away from the day-to-day business of dubious banking. Unfortunately for Shadeys, Tom is planning on making a difference. And so begins an epic battle of wills. The might of a multi-billion-pound bank versus a seemingly naïve country Vicar.

Great array of characters

I find I am searching for David Luddington's next book already! As with his earlier books, the characters are a motley mix but made so real by both the author's writing and Nigel Planer's superb narration. Unlikely plot but the characters sweep you along until the story becomes believable and you don't want to stop listening.. Next bool please!.

This is a great story for long journeys

I took a gamble down loading this story and it was a gamble that paid off !
I highly recommend this title as it is a unique story with twists and turns and ‘steady comedy ‘ throughout the book.
Enjoy !

Very enjoyable

First one of his books I've read, really enjoyed it and will definitely read the rest. Easy to listen to and some good laughs.

Could have been a TV series

This is a well explained, well delivered story, with likable characters. It, fairly quickly, grabbed my attention and kept me coming back to find out what was going to happen next. Well worth a listen.

This was the second book of David Luddington's that I've listened to and my only criticism is his seeming interest in beers and drinking. Although I can see pubs being integral to the stories, the details of beverage are not!
Apart from this one minor thing, I'm a big fan now and the humour, characters and stories themselves are just about right.

Overall, worth your time and highly recommended.

Nice for the big banks to be pulled down a peg or two

I think we can all empathise with the little village, being trampled by the greedy bank. A well told and narrated story. The characters are believable and engaging, the technicalities of banking are explained simply enough for me to understand what's going on, while at the same time sounding like they are complicated enough to be believable. Thoroughly enjoyable, One of the best from this author.

Absolute nonsense with a huge dose of humour!

I love coming across a good oul yarn, well told, and especially one that doesn’t take itself seriously. And this is such a one & one that is interspersed with smile-out-loud moments.
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this throughout
Nigel Planer’s narration was excellent and while bits of the story seemed to repeat, wonderful stuff
