About this listen
For more than four decades, Ursula K. Le Guin has enthralled fans with her imagination, clarity, and moral vision. The recipient of numerous literary prizes, including the National Book Award, the Kafka Award, and five Hugo and five Nebula Awards, this renowned writer has, in each story and novel, created a provocative, ever-evolving universe filled with diverse worlds and rich characters reminiscent of our earthly selves. Now, in The Birthday of the World, this gifted artist returns to these worlds in eight brilliant short works, including a never-before-published novella, each of which probes the essence of humanity.

Magnificent and thought provoking
Deep explorations of human nature, ways of loving and gender roles. These stories will stay with me a long time.

Beautiful, thoughtful and enriching
This is a great collection of sci fi held together by the thread of Le Guins deep perception of humanity. Her explorations are unique and contain many insights. Sometimes, funny, yet often harrowing and tragic the stories have beautifully conceived plots and masterful narrative. I was taken so far and so deep that the stories ran on and on in my mind long after finishing them. Worth a second listen and clearly narrated though sometimes a bit passively. What can i say, even if you dont like sci fi there is plenty here for any thoughtful listener.

No Chapters/ titles - whats the problem???
A wonderful exploration of human possibilities, the backbone of Ursula K. Le Guin's work. Thoughtful, thought provoking - a great thing- creating ongoing consideration of what it is to be human. There have been complaints that there are no chapters or titles given for each piece - could it be that is because they are not seperable? I did not find this a problem, making me consider connections, not seperations. I have been a long time fan of this authors writings and thinking and this 'collection' does not dissapoint in any way. I thouroughly enjoyed my first Audible Le Guin - it will certainly not be my last!
