About this listen
The second novel from the author of the Baileys Prize-winning The Glorious Heresies.
Like all 20-year-olds, Ryan Cusack is trying to get his head around who he is. This is not a good time for his boss to exploit his dual heritage by opening a new black market route from Italy to Ireland. It is certainly not a good time for his adored girlfriend to decide he's irreparably corrupted. And he really wishes he hadn't accidentally caught the eye of an ornery grandmother who fancies herself his saviour. There may be a way clear of the chaos in the business proposals of music promoter Colm and in the attention of the charming, impulsive Natalie. But now that his boss' ambitions have rattled the city, Ryan is about to find out what he's made of, and it might be that chaos is in his blood.

This book is getting a hard time
Any additional comments?
This book is getting a hard time, and when you compare it to it's predecessor The Glorious Heresies you can see why. TGH is utterly brilliant, incredibly well written. This feels like a sequel that wasn't needed but that you welcomed because it could have been more of the same and you were greedy for it, however it ends up leaving you feeling a bit dirty and looking at TGH differently as a result.
The story itself isn't bad, we already have our main characters, but somehow it didn't work. It felt too repetitive, too many break ups and punch ups and I wanted more. I wanted more of the main character in Ryan, but have ended up not really liking him as a result. If there's another book around him I will read it, this hasn't put me off and Lisa McInerney is clearly a fantastic writer, I will just hope for better.

Following the impossible
What made the experience of listening to The Blood Miracles the most enjoyable?
The Glorious Heresies was, in my opinion, a modern masterpiece so writing a sequel was always going to be an onerous task. Although not quite the same standard this was still a seriously good read.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Blood Miracles?
The constant reminder that addiction is exactly that makes the reader reflect the 'but for the grace of God'.......
What about Shelley Atkinson’s performance did you like?
The depth of characterisation is truly amazing.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Just when you thought .....
Any additional comments?
Someone MUST arrange a meet for Lisa with Sally Wainwright.

superbly written and narrated.
I loved this, the central character is crafted in such a complex way that I was interested in his predicaments, even sympathetic to him while finding him also unlikeable and weak. I highly recommend, the writing is superb and the narration complements it beautifully.

Best narration and fantastic tale
This is by far the best narration I have ever heard. The characters were all so individually portrayed that one has no difficulty knowing which one is speaking and the wonderful accent made me realize that this was a book to listen to and not read. I have read all three on the trot and the story is both tragic but also darkly hilarious and uplifting. I thoroughly recommend this series.

Amazing , Thrilling , Gripping
This Title was just amazing , second in the series, this book had me at the edge of me seat. As the book progressed it had me wishing for outcomes, worrying about characters and at times still with anticipation.

Loved the first in the series but the second book felt like a rehash of the first
The story was a bit repetitive and I felt quite disappointed as just adored the first book - made me laugh so much.

Fantastic narrator for a brilliant story 10/10
Love these books! Ryan is so endearing, Maureen too, the colloquialism & turns of phase are fabulous. The narrator really makes it. Best books I’ve “read” in years.

Disappointing.sequel
Loved Glorious Heresies but was disappointed with this. Ryan needs to have something special if we're going to root for him but despite his early promise he's really just like his Dad. I also thought the violence too protracted, it just got boring. Not enough of Corrine either!
