About this listen
What if a single cause lies beneath millions of misunderstandings and mistakes?
What if the foundation of modern technology introduced an invisible bias into our thinking?
What if you could understand why so many arguments go wrong and how to set them right?
In a world awash with illusion and misinformation, this is a profound and practical guide towards clarity. It has philosophy for non-philosophers, hypnosis for non-hypnotists, and stories for hungry hearts. From Arizona to Madagascar, we join an intriguing journey in search of understanding via psychotherapy, storytelling, and the British Library, uncovering on our way the vulnerabilities that lurk within our language.
Give this book to your friends on the other side of the debate. Any debate. Any side.

"John Heron meets Roger Zelazny in this rollercoaster ride through some of the multi-layered intricacies of human consciousness and how we make sense of things. Written for grownups—such an immense relief to be spared the smug condescension to be commonly found in such writings. Willbourn is determined to meet us on his level, and if we’re not there already we find ourselves picked up by the scruff and ceremoniously brought along. Quite exhilarating. And very very funny in many parts. I don’t agree with everything he says, but I loved reading it anyway. This is a robust, challenging, absorbing, lively and illuminating read. And utterly human and personal. Almost impossible to put down." (Catherine Llewellyn, www.yesyounow.today)

Philosophical Musings & The Way of the Mind
I enjoyed this book, the authors narration and the general topics covered within, although I think the title of 'A Bug in Our Thinking & the Way to Fix It', is a bit misleading. In fact, the author talks about this very issue in one of the chapters. I personally think it should have been called 'Philosophical Musings & the Way of the Mind' because that's what the book is essentially about. Lots of interesting anecdotes, philosophy, stories, travels, reflections, thoughts & of course general musings on life. It is not a self help book as such and not fully about eliminating difficult or habitual negative thinking patterns as the title may suggest. Another sight criticism is that goes on a bit too long. Perhaps, a more ruthless editor would have helped, especially towards the end. Sorry Hugh, no need for a chapter on what to call the book. However, the book is a worthwhile adventure into general philosophy and well, musings of the mind.

Thought provoking
Encouraging you to think deeply and for yourself rather than relying on what supposed experts tell us is the essence of what I took from this book. Thank you Hugh.

Renewed appreciation for our Innate Power of Story
I enjoyed this greatly and will return to it again to notice what I notice (and perhaps did not notice during the first listening).
A very unusual book written in a natural contemplative style that I resonate with and deeply appreciate. There is genuine humanity & humility the book is expressed from and anchored in—which I find is rare but thankfully not yet extinct!
Also, I found while listening a subtle wisdom permeating and inviting deeper self-reflection and simple honesty, Rather than say the more pushy pumped up 'bomb site of empty promises' that is so common in the 'Self Help' genre. Hugh's book transcends all of that.
I'm glad it exists and I look forward to more!
