Summary

Finding herself in a new home in Brighton, Kate Bradbury sets about transforming her barren backyard into a beautiful wildlife garden. But while she's doing this Kate's neighbours continue to pave their gardens, the wildlife she tries to save is further threatened and she feels she's fighting an uphill battle.

Is there any point in gardening for wildlife when everyone else is drowning the land in poison and cement? If the dead could return, what would they say about the land we have taken, the ancient routes we have carved up, the wildlife we have lost?

Candidate for Nobel peace prize for humanity

Words and expressions fall off the writers pen like poetry. From the heart. The realisations for those walking and crawling the planet today ring so true. If only these leaves could be scattered like confetti all over a certain meeting starting tomorrow. They may realise how simple it can be. Thank you Kate

Poetic, sad, funny, hopeful!

Love love loved it!
Read beautifully, written beautifully- did not want it to end.
Have since invested in borage, love in the mist, and many more wildlife-friendly plants,, also more bird boxes, non-mown grassy areas, added to my new hotels and want to dig a pond!!!
Read it, listen to it - it’s gorgeous!

It only takes one

Kate narrates her beautiful story with all it's up and downs. Painting her naturalist canvas as she struggles against society and it's ever increasing urge to block out the natural world in its aim to create sterile environments void of life.

Wonderful listen

I downloaded this audio book on a off chance while searching for my next listen.
I am so glad I did. What a fantastic inspiring story of a garden brought back to life. It was interwoven with a memoir of the author.
Beautifully read by the author Kate Bradbury.
If just one person listening to this builds a garden to encourage wildlife, it will make our planet a better place In which to live.
It made me want to rush out and count the wildlife living in my wildlife garden.

A new dimension

I have resd this book previously but have enjoyed the Audible version. The author conveys both joy and heartache in her reading. As an exiled Brightonian with family connections to Preston it gave me a chance to relive part of my past. Highly recommended.
