About this listen
A rags-to-$9-billion-riches story. A crash course in Burger King history and fast food in America, The Burger King is McLamore's candid and conversational memoir. Written before his death in 1996, he talks of his life, the birth of the Whopper, and the rise of Burger King.
Inside, find out:
- How Burger King managed to create the worst advertising campaign of 1985
- What Burger King shares with Pitbull, Scarface, and Marco Rubio
- Why Wendy's founder Dave Thomas called McLamore an "American original"
McLamore's account of Burger King offers an instructive and inspiring tale to young entrepreneurs. Here's a story of entrepreneurship development from one of the top entrepreneurs of fast food chains. Want to learn how to start a food business? Burger King's journey from south Florida drive-ins to international corporation reveals the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, whether in the food service industry or elsewhere.
But the autobiography of McLamore doesn't end when he exits the company. So, what comes after success? To McLamore, it comes down to what's truly needed to live a full and good life - personal values, impacting the people around you, and juicy hamburgers.

Superb
My first introduction with Long Form Audiobooks was with this book.
This has changed my opinion on CEOs and global company leaders. I thought from the moment they started their companies they have a never ending lust for power, ruthlessly cold hearted and most of all un-sympathetic people. Not our Jim as it seems.
I gave it 4/5 overall because of Mr McLamores story telling and the overall composition of the auidobook.
B.J. Harrison has a warm and candid talking style providing the all American man feel to this book. He didn't over-act but spoke to us like we were listening to Mr McLamore himself. It was almost like a bedtime story from a beloved grandparent.
The story (When it was on Jim's personal life, business ventures and his descriptions of people he knew and worked with in the chapters from the start to the Dreaded Takeover) was amazingly engaging, you got to know the man and his struggles! He was an underdog for me, i loved it!.
After the takeover chapters it becomes more packed with business jargon, office politics and public perception of BK a necessary evil for the History of BK. i prefered the writing style and view of the world of JM.
He seems like a standup bloke from his writings! God Bless him and his Family. He was good for BK, the company will never be the same again.
Good intro to Audiobooks!

Nice guy who has no idea the damage he caused
He proudly tells of destroying peoples health with fast food and minimum wages. A race to the bottom of Burger King and Macdonalds and KFC. Poisoning the world
