Summary

The Camel Club by best-selling sensation David Baldacci is the exciting first instalment of a breathtaking series.

The man known as Oliver Stone has no official past. He spends most days camped opposite the White House, hoping to expose corruption wherever he finds it. But the stakes are raised when he and his friends, a group of conspiracy theorist misfits known as The Camel Club, accidentally witness the murder of an intelligence analyst. Especially when the authorities are seemingly happy to write it off as a suicide.

For Secret Service agent Alex Ford, monitoring the 'investigation', the suicide verdict doesn't ring true. As punishment for sticking his nose where it doesn't belong, he is reassigned to bodyguard duties. His abilities are tested to the limit when he is sent to protect the President during a visit to his hometown, where a terrorist cell has spent months plotting an event that will shake the world.

Meanwhile, America's powerful intelligence chief Carter Gray is unnerved when he glimpses the face of an old acquaintance in Arlington Cemetery - but it is the face of a man supposedly long dead....

And as The Camel Club is poised to expose a conspiracy that reaches into the heart of Washington's highly secretive corridors of power, Alex Ford finds out that his worst nightmare is about to happen....

The Camel Club is followed by The Collectors, Stone Cold, Divine Justice and Hell's Corner.

A good read

I enjoyed the book. it was easy to follow but the plot had enough in it to hold my interest. Characters had depth and interest. My only quibble would be with the authors laboured "preachings". I can't go into too much detail without veering into spoiler land. I would recommend this and look forward 2 more escapades of the Camel Club members in future stories

awesome

absolutely loved this one and, as usual Baldacci keeps you guessing until the end, absolutely brilliant.

camel club

perhaps because I was only getting lots of short listens followed by several relistens, it took a while to grasp the flow.
it did eventually come together. I think I prefer Amos.

Cheesy but enjoyable

After all, sometimes you do just want a big chunk of cheddar, and this one is well enough constructed and written to be enjoyable. I shall listen to more of these next time I’m in the mood for something intriguing and well written, but a bit less literary than my usual fare.

The Camel Club

Excellent thriller as always with Baldacci. I knocked one star off story as it seemed to lose it’s way towards the end with ‘enemies’ double crossing each other and widely differing motives. Nevertheless, a timely reflection on just how ‘near the edge’ we are with nuclear conflict and how the deterrent effect can work the other way.

Great listen but slightly odd production

I really enjoyed the story the characters and pacing of another great book by Baldacci but I do really struggle with the music at start and end of chapters.

it takes me out of the book experience, feels over produced, the narration is great and sometimes less is more, please drop the music, thx.

Camel Club

a bit slow and convoluted to start but it is the beginning of a new series. Then it got going and I thoroughly enjoyed the start of the Camel Club. I am now going to download some more.

Almost ruined by the horrendous music

Awful production quality, cheesey and downmarket music over the end and start of chapters.

Production company did this otherwise decent book no favours
