About this listen

How hard do you have to shake the family tree to find the truth about the past?

Fifteen year-old Rae Kerrigan never really knew her family's history. Her mother and father died when she was young and it is only when she accepts a scholarship to the prestigious Guilder Boarding School in England that a mysterious family secret is revealed.

As Rae struggles with new friends, a new school and a star-struck forbidden love, she must also face the ultimate challenge: receive a tattoo on her 16th birthday with specific powers that may bind her to an unspeakable darkness. It's up to Rae to undo the dark evil in her family's past and have a ray of hope for her future.

Story is great once you get past the accents

You really have to give this a go. The accents at the start are super off putting but you get used to them and the storyline is good and interesting and a little different to anything I’ve read so far.
In defence of the narrator the main character grew up in Scotland then more to America and the second main character is welsh … so I’m not sure who could have done all the accents needed.

Over all a good read, after getting used to a bad welsh accent😯

At first I was more than a little put off by the awful accent by the reader, for the character in the book called (Molly)but it grew on me and was able to settle into the story. I see there are 2 more books that follow this set of six, however I don’t think I will bother with them , as the synopsis more or less told the rest of the story. I did enjoy the books and would give them 8 out of 10 .

totally enthralling

What did you like most about The Chronicles of Kerrigan Box Set, Books 1 - 6?

even though the books were short,in total the story was well balanced and had depth to it, with some great characters
at times fast paced and full of action and others you delve deeper into the the characters and story line devepoment, but it is always entertaining and the longer you listened the more enthralling the story becomes

What other book might you compare The Chronicles of Kerrigan Box Set, Books 1 - 6 to, and why?

vampire academy is similar(with the obvious lack of vampires)

What about Sarah Ann Masse’s performance did you like?

ok dealing with the elephant in the room first!
some of sarah's accent's are horrendous! Molly is one of the main characters in the story and the welsh accent utterly abismal! if i had to guess i would say it's closer to a scottish pakistani than anything else and it took me a while to get my head around it, but if you ignore where she is meant to derive from and just listen to the story, she is totally adorable!
and in fact she is one of my favourite characters in the whole series.
other than accents Sarah does a wonderful job narrating, you dont have any problem deciding who is who when listening and her narration is very emotive which really pulls you deeper into the tale being told

Accents

The worlds worst welsh and Scottish accents ,But thank goodness the story was good, as only one American accent I think they should have used someone from the uk

Brilliant box set!

As other reviews have said - the narrator’s Welsh accent for Molly seriously dodgy! But the story is so brilliant and after a while, Moly’s accent just becomes her and I found myself accepting it fully. That said - her narration is great, apart from the accents, which all just became the characters’ voices as the book went on. I will definitely have to read any further books - I’m absolutely hooked on these books and the narration! I thoroughly recommend this box set. My advice - just go with the accents and accept them and you will soon find yourself swept into the story and narration, to the point where the accents just don’t matter.

Accent by reader

Only thing that spoiled it a bit was the terrible welsh accent for one of the characters
