Summary

In the south of France, where hatred simmers in the heat, a man seemingly admired, and certainly feared, drops dead at a dinner party. All of the guests fall under suspicion, including Welsh-Canadian professor Cait Morgan. A criminologist who specializes in profiling victims, Cait sets out to solve the murder - and clear her name. Add to this the disappearance of an ancient Celtic gold collar said to be cursed and there you have the ingredients for a Nicoise salad of death, secrets, and lies.

Will Cait find the killer before she too falls victim to a murderer driven by a surprising and disturbing motive? The Corpse with the Silver Tongue is the first in the Cait Morgan mystery series, a classic whodunit series featuring the eccentric Professor Cait Morgan.

Good story, good narration.

I read through the reviews and nearly didn't get this audio book. I decided as it was free I'd give it a go. After some of the very critical comments about the author reading her story, I wasn't expecting a beautiful soft Welsh voice. Far better than some of the actors I have listened to in the past. yep I'll be listening to the next in the series. It's not a gripping David Baldacci but it was a very pleasant listen while cleaning the house etc.

Fab story and Good Narration

I enjoyed the story and liked the understated narration which felt in keeping with the main character.

Delightful

The narration was spot on for this novel. A typical Welsh accent perfectly painted the image of a totally unglamorous and, as such, realistic protagonist. The story was engaging and should be listened to as the character's retelling of events, rather than as a dramatisation of the story.

Not sure about this one but will listen to the next

Took time to get engaged, story line a bit chaotic.. could be done better. To say that, I will listen to the second book too. (Wouldn’t pay for it)

An interesting book read by author

Loved the Welsh Canadian narration and the total engagement of the primary character which I found very real. Thank goodness for non- plastic heroines at last.

loved it.

Contrary to some other reviewers I found the narrator excellent. As it is written in the first person, the tone of voice and accent works well and reflects the oddness of the protagonist.
I think it has a hint of Sherlock Holmes about it.

Kept me interested

An interesting protagonist - and enjoyable plot line. Well written and narrated. Kept me interested and looking forward to the next book. Hope there will be more.

Not a native English speaker here, but still truly disliked the narrator.

The story is quite interesting and engaging, however… spoiler, SPOILER: in my opinion the last chapter “Four Months Later” is totally unnecessary and unfortunately it ruins the book, with a totally improbable twist.
I normally like when the book’s author is also the narrator, because there is more emphasis on characters and events, but in this case it was just a painful listen.
As I said in my title I’m not a native English speaker, and for sure I’m not familiar with the Welsh accent, but the author has a dull voice, sometimes her volume is too low and annoyingly whiny.
I agree with other reviews: this book should be re-recorded with a professional voice actor.
I will not listen to the follow up book.

Gripping tale with excellent narration

I was completely hooked by the story. I found the style of the narrator a perfect match for the way Cait described what was going on and her approach to it.
