About this listen
Escape to the Scottish Highlands with this sweet small town tale of second chances
Small animal vet Sophie Jones has seen her daughter off to university in the USA. As a single parent with an empty nest, she surprises herself—taking a job in a tiny village of Applemore in the Highlands of Scotland. Hundreds of miles from home, she can try to escape the fear that her past might come back to haunt her.
Divorced artist Ben Lewis accepts his grown up daughter's teasing that he's turned into a grumpy hermit. He's perfectly happy with his life in an old farmhouse overlooking the wild Highland beach.
The last thing he needs is someone coming to live full time in the cottage by the shore—and their first meeting is a disaster. But circumstances keep throwing them together, and the attraction between them is undeniable.

Good book
This book is slightly different from the others as we don’t really know these characters at all, but it was nice to get to know Ben and some of the other villagers as well as the new vet Sophie. The narration as always was excellent can’t wait to read a new book.

What happened to the narrater?
I’ve listen to and loved all the books so far. I can’t get through anymore of this thanks to the awful narrater. You can hear every breath, she makes Sophie and Murdogh sound like withering flailing flowers! Rilla sounds like she’s from Essex and everyone else sounds slow, bored and like they’re at the end of their days. I will never know how this series ends as I cannot bring myself to listen to anymore! Bring back the other lady

A good audiobook, but not as great as others in the series
A good and enjoyable story, but not as good as the others in the series. I loved the descriptions of the scenery and the work with the animals. The story had an excellent and meaningful message.
This narrator was different to narrator from the rest of the series. This one wasn’t as great although she was still bearable. I hope the usual narrator is back for the next book.
My main issue with this was I never engaged with or liked the main character of Sophie. She wasn’t very likeable and was wishy washy, and ‘meh’. Some of this was because the new narrator made her sound ‘meh’ and weak. I also didn’t warm to Ben at all, he just sounded miserable. I just didn’t care about what happened to either of them. If this book wasn’t part of a series I may have given up.

Not as good as the previous books in the series
A change in narrator spoilt it for me. New characters were okay but no mention of any from previous stories so felt it didn't belong in this series. To be honest I got bored in some parts and fell asleep listening to it.
