My favourite set of books!

I cannot remember when I was gifted the first book, but I knew it was either a birthday or a Christmas gift. I fell in love with the first book almost immediately, and I remember the names of all the main characters in the first book during the times when I should have been remembering my school's lessons. I've revisited this series so many times, and I want my husband to read or listen to the books, knowing that he loves playing Dungeons and Dragons, which also has a similar range of races, classes, and similar enemies. I think him listening to the books, rather than reading them physically during busy times would make him understand why I love them so much!

The book of my childhood

I first had the pleasure of reading this book when I was around 13 years old and it stole my heart. It's written so well it animates the story and transports you into the mind of each character as if by magic. I now read it at least twice a year and it never loses its edge; I'm 23 now and I've never managed to find a book that makes me as happy or intrigued as this one. It's great for kids, I suppose it was written with a target audience in mind, but also has an important message and a lot of life lessons to teach an adult reader. It's sometimes easy to look at a challenge in life and see no possible way around it; The Cry Of The Icemark teaches that all obstacles in life can be overcome with a bit of hard work, quick wit and a lot of courage. I will recommend this book to every avid book reader I meet and you can be sure that if I ever have kids, they'll know this book inside out by the age of 10! I feel I also have to give the narrator a solid 10/10 for her work, as she just as much brings the story to life as the author has.

Still holds up!

I loved this series when I was younger so decided to give the audio book a chance. It still holds up! A wonderful story of the power of friendship and diplomacy in the face of seemingly impossible odds. I thought the narrator did a great job and I really enjoyed the different voices and accents she uses through the story!

A book that lasts through the years!

I first discovered this as a teenager and myself and my siblings kept passing it around-"who has it?". There are three of us and yet this went on for years!

Having discovered it as an audio book I immediately bought it and the sequel-brilliant. Amazing narration and the characters, cultures and politics are brilliant.

At 24 I still love listening to it and will continue to do so for at least another decade (or two!)...

Amazing

This book is aimed at children but I find that it works for any age. The characters Hill creates are believable and interact well together. However for me the world created is brilliant, the civilisations aare based on those from our world eg the Romans (Polypontions) or the Amazons (Hypolitan). There is a good amount of humour whille still retaining the serious plotline.

Downloaded it on Sunday and listened to it 5 times by the end of the week. Amazing story, can't wait to get the next one

not what I thought

This wasn't for me,a few chapters in I realised it it written more for children not adults and the narrators voice really started to get annoying...I also thought the princesses character was pretty auful too.
