About this listen

Detective Patrik Hedström and Erica Falck are back, in an irresistible Scandi crime thriller for fans of Jo Nesbo and Lars Kepler.

A community torn apart

As a heavy mist rolls into the Swedish coastal town of Fjällbacka, shocking violence shakes the small community to its core. Rolf Stenklo, a famous photographer, is found murdered in his gallery. Two days later, a brutal tragedy on a private island leaves the prestigious Bauer family devastated.

A town full of secrets

With his boss acting strangely, Detective Patrik Hedström is left to lead the investigation. Tensions rise threatening cracks in the team of officers at Tanumshede police station and pressure mounts as the press demand answers.

A reckoning in blood

In pursuit of inspiration for her next true-crime book, Patrik’s wife Erica Falck leaves behind their three children and travels to Stockholm to research the unsolved decades-old murder of a figure from Rolf’s past. As Erica searches for the truth, she realizes that her mystery is connected to Patrik’s case. These threads from the past are woven into the present and old sins leave behind long shadows.

Critic reviews

'A long-awaited return to Fjallbacka that reminds the reader on every page why the series is so popular. Should come with a trigger warning to put everything on hold until finished reading.' Yrsa Sigurdardottir

‘A welcome return for Hedström & Falck with a sublime plot, packed with subtle suspense and intrigue… Camilla Lackberg proving why she’s still the best there is…’ J.M. Dagliesh

Love this series and long awaited new book

I really love this series and was happy to see another instalment. However, the narrator absolutely spoiled it for me, very formal English and lots of mouthy/nasal/grunty sounds which I found really off putting.

Keeps you guessing until the end!

Excellent listening! I just hope it’s not so long for the next instalment . I love this series and couldn’t believe my luck when I saw who it was about. It didn’t disappoint and kept me guessing right until the end, just brilliant!

Fabulous plot twists

A real joy to listen to. An original and interesting story with some great twists and turns.

A few reviews have been critical of the narrator but I thought he was very good.

Awful narrator

Not only the narrator can’t pronounce Swedish words, the narration itself is boring, can’t get into the story at all due to the narrator’s voice and the constant swallowing and inability to speak clearly. This book should have never passed editing. I shall be reading this book instead as the story itself sounds interesting.
I will be returning this.

Had to abandon after an hour due to the horrific narration.

Promising story but I had to abandon it after an hour due to the unimaginably bad narration- it was like a language learning tape, but for the non-wordy bits that go around the words- tonnes of nasal/glottal/respiratory happenings that really shouldn’t be there by virtue of better performer technique, or some judicious editing (the pauses between chapters are also slightly too long, and the ambience of the studio is audible- I’m pretty certain there was no editing at all). Potentially good story ruined by an horrific narration.
