When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze. Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there - or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything - even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horror that patrol its corridors, to try and find out.

story excellent-voice commentary dreadful
Asolutely loved the story and because of this I carried on listening.
However the voice of the actor with his poor attempts of accents was dreadful and at times painful.
Dick Van Dyke's English cocky accent was better than this actors piss poor attempt of the alter boy. When he attempted the Scottish accent I thought Mrs.Doubtfire had arrived in the scene. And his french accent threw me back to the early 90's of the UK comedy program of 'Allo Allo' with the English spy being a French policeman ' someone has just 'pissed' by the door'......
again I cannot knock the amazing storyline and it's drama. however the actors attempt of accents was a huge let down.
shame really!
I have the overall score of 3 as the story is so good!
but have to take a stars off because of the painful accents of the actor.

MUST TRY HARDER MR BROWN
I found the Da Vinci Code at first very good, I enjoyed all the info on Mary Madelene, but for me the ending spoilt all those hours listening.
What sentimental drivel the last hour was, I found it rather similar in places to Angels and Demons, think I'll be giving Mr Brown a miss for a while

May be clever but it’s also really dull
The story lacks pace and is actually quite tedious at times. Intriguing subject but actually quite a dull and predictable story.
Narration was also lacking with odd female voices and even weirder accents.
I assume the film is more interesting....?

What a shame about the narration... The voice was pleasant but the accents were borderline offensive and even when there was no accent, the tone very often sounded like an action movie trailer :(

highly recommended
This is definitely a page-turner with a very clever and intricate plot, lurking you into the fictional world with half-reality. Some unexpected twists added flavour to the story.
As to the narrator, Jeff Harding is brilliant. Every character has its unique voice and he's really good at putting on different accents! I especially like the voice of the female characters coz they did sound like a female voice, unlike other narrators! However, I do have to complain that all the female voices are a bit on the soft side, making it difficult to hear the words.
Jeff Hardling has narrated a lot of books but Audible only has 2 of his! Can we have more please?

BLAH!!! GREAT BOOK RUINED BY GHASTLY NARRATION!!!!
Any additional comments?
I loved loved loved this book when I read the paperback. I was sooooooooooo looking forward to listening to it. I managed to last 3 chapters until the god awful narrator drove me to madness with the dreadful "French" accent and "female" voice. I am sorry I wasted my free credit but it was a salutary lesson to always listen to the audio sample before I purchase and download a book. I gave five stars to the story because despite this it is still fabulous book.

The Da Vinci Code does not dissapoint
I'd been wanting to read the Da Vinci Code for a long time and after all the hype, was not disappointed. Jeff Harding does a first-class job of reading this expertly woven tale by Dan Brown. Like Angels and Demons, history, theology, mystery and suspense make The Da Vinci Code a compelling listen.
