About this listen
Jane Austen meets Sherlock Holmes in this new Regency mystery series
Newly returned from finishing school, Lady Juliette Thorndike is ready to debut in London society. Due to her years away, she hasn't spent much time with her parents, and sees them only as the flighty, dilettante couple the other nobles love. But when they disappear, she discovers she never really knew them at all. They've been living double lives as government spies - and they're only the latest in a long history of espionage that is the family's legacy.
Now Lady Juliette is determined to continue their work. Mentored by her uncle, she plunges into the dangerous world of spy craft. From the glittering ballrooms of London to the fox hunts, regattas, and soirees of country high society, she must chase down hidden clues, solve the mysterious code her parents left behind, and stay out of danger. All the while, she has to keep her endeavors a secret from her best friend and her suitors - not to mention nosy, irritatingly handsome Bow Street runner Daniel Swann, who suspects her of a daring theft.
Can Lady Juliette outwit her enemies and complete her parents' last mission? Or will it lead her to a terrible end?

Poor choice of narrator
I had to give up. The narrator sounds like a modern day news reader - unfortunately I couldn’t get past it

Great story shame about the narrator
I really enjoyed the plot and characters it’s a shame the narrator cannot pronounce words correctly! So many mispronunciations it started to detract from the plot. I’m going to read the rest of the books myself to find out what happens!

Lack of emotion
An excellent plot line with lots of twists and turns. However certain key emotional hot spots were very lacking in emotion and disappointed me as a listener. Lots of unresolved conflicts which make the story fall flat. It’s obviously designed as a series but due to this lack of emotion about some very seriously disturbing behaviours plus the randomly placed and utterly annoying pleases to God, I won’t be following the series. A pity because with just a few tweaks this could be a riveting book, instead of a sort of historical Nancy Drew.

An unusual storyline with interesting characters and a complex puzzle to solve. I enjoyed the narration too.

Stick with it!
If you’re drawn to this title because you are an Hurrah! fan of Georgette Heyer, Stella Riley or Mary Balough, then definitely proceed. It’s NOT Georgette Heyer, not even close, but you’ll recognise the world, the language and the culture. Far closer to the latter author’s but, thankfully, no Julia Quinn antics.
This is a slow burn and you’ll be grateful for the fact that there is another story available immediately afterwards because, even though it wasn’t rushed, it isn’t over. It’s not your run of the mill Regency Romance, notwithstanding the title. It is in fact a very slow burning espionage tale, which is sensibly bringing us in at the beginning of the middle or perhaps the middle of the beginning!
Like Lady Juliet, we are confused but curious, over our heads but in too deep. Lying to friends but not sure who can be trusted! Complicated? Absolutely! I highly recommend this series. <br /

The narrator is fabulous (good accents and distinctive characters - you’ll never wonder who is speaking).
This is currently part of the Audible Plus Catalogue and it’s so good that I am immediately off to purchase book 2 in the series.

Religious overtones
A good mystery novel with excellent narration. I was irritated by the heroine checking that what she was doing was OK with her god. People were more religious in those days but these instances of checking were superfluous to the story.
Audible should advise when there are religious themes.

Kept me interested and involved
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the story was very engaging the whole way through. The narrator was excellent. Although there were some mentions about God, It was not overdone and I do not feel it detracted from the story. I hope there is a follow-up to this story as I would love to know more about the life of the main characters.

the childish voices are very irritating
the characters are portrayed as to immature to be believable in what they go on to do. the narrators very childish voice for different characters is a detriment.
