About this listen
Professor David Ullman is among the world's leading authorities on demonic literature. Not that he's a believer. He sees what he teaches as a branch of the imagination and nothing more. So when offered a luxury trip to Venice to consult on a 'phenomenon', he accepts, taking his 11-year-old daughter, Tess, with him.
Amidst the decadent splendour of the city, David makes his way to the address he's been asked to visit. What he witnesses in the tiny attic room shakes him to the core: a man restrained in a chair, clearly insane. But what David hears the man say is worse. The voice of his father, dead for 30 years, repeating the last words he ever spoke to his son. Words that have left scars - and a mystery - behind.
Terrified, David is determined to leave with Tess as quickly as possible. But he can't shake the feeling that something is following him. And then, before his eyes on the roof of their hotel, Tess disappears. But before she falls into the Grand Canal's waters, she utters a plea: Find me.
At once frightening and deeply moving, Andrew Pyper's page-turning thriller explores the lengths a father will go to find his daughter, and the darkness he is prepared to confront along the way.
Read by Jeff Harding. A native of New England, Jeff Harding has appeared in television productions as varied as Howard’s End, The Fast Show, Father Ted, and NCS Manhunt. He has recorded many audiobooks, including Orion's The Last Templar, Robert Ludlum’s Bourne Trilogy and the best-selling Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code.

Strange ending
Great story, very addictive and excellent read.
Such a shame about the ending, it stops without any explanation!
Frustrated indeed.

Goes along like mad and then....
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story was slow to start, then rather improbable but entertaining, and finally let itself down with a very unsatisfying finish. i felt that the author burnt himself out too early, and then couldn't find a way to conclude his tale.
What could Andrew Pyper have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
At three episodes, he could have made it shorter.

The road trip from Hell
How would you classify this? Deemo-thriller?
The hypothesis here is that demons do walk amongst us and literary Professor and sceptic David Ellman is driven on an increasingly desperate search to find his daughter taken from him in mysterious circumstances.
The plot is good and the tension racks up with each surprise and the demon premise seems all too believable.
A terrific novel.

With John Milton and Jeff Harding you can't lose.
Would you consider the audio edition of The Demonologist to be better than the print version?
Listen to the audio and then read the book. The words flow from the page as do the characters.
What other book might you compare The Demonologist to, and why?
Bad idea to compare just consider and judge this splendid work on its own.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Bad mistake to slice it into pieces as it has continuity and depth throughout. Andrew Pyper's use of language is from a classical palette. Milton never sounded so interesting or so significant to a thriller.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
Stick with the voice and the flow of pictures ...at times that can be hard ... Jeff Harding is a gift to this writing and visa versa. Don't allow your enthusiasm to waver or to dim your visions of characters. I'll wait a week or so and listen to it again.
The juxtaposing of characters, plot and Paradise Lost is inspired... next you'll have to order, as I have, the audiobook of Milton's great work to remind yourself of material you should have remembered from school days.

No
Any additional comments?
I found the story line very long winded with just a lot of words but no action.
I lost interest and just listened because I had purchased it.Only listened in short stretches as it was very monotonous. Shame.
