About this listen

The Fruitcake - A deadly twist on a popular Christmas tradition

Four friends, one fruitcake, and a ritzy town full of secrets . . .

What could go wrong?

When Holly Kelly moves from Miami to the lavish Laguna Palms neighborhood, seeking community and friendship-with her husband and rambunctious triplets in tow-she finds it in spades. She is soon drawn into the intimate lives of almost everyone in their beachfront cul-de-sac, especially her three new ride-or-dies: Gina, Greta, and Chloe.

But when the neighborhood's holiday fruitcake exchange takes a dark turn, the bodies start piling up. The deaths seem like accidents-at first. Meanwhile, their upscale suburb on the shores of Hutchinson Island, Florida, is also being plagued by a series of disturbing disappearances. Men vanish, then reappear in the neighborhood . . . but changed.

The four friends decide to do some sleuthing of their own, and what they find chills them to the bone. When it's Holly's turn to deliver a fruitcake to the Hudson sisters on Christmas Eve four years later, she hears screaming coming from inside the house . . . many different voices-and they don't sound female.

Can they uncover the twisted secrets of Laguna Palms before someone closer to home becomes yet another casualty?

The Fruitcake is a fast-paced thriller that drips with murder, mayhem, and delightful, often delicious Southern hospitality while split narration spins the tale from alternate perspectives. If you enjoyed the TV series Desperate Housewives, you'll love The Fruitcake-a twisty murder mystery you won't soon forget.

Excellent

This is so funny, dark and just appealed straight away. I had never heard of this author before and I am so glad that I found her. It had so many vibes that were familiar - desperate housewives, how to kill your family. I loved the way that not all the loose endings were tied up and it left to your imagination. The dual narration worked so well as so many times narrators don't get the other sex voices right. Normally I dont like jumping timelines but this worked as doing it chronologically wouldn't have worked.

I just gave up on the day and kept listening it was so captivating and just kept drawing me in.

Laugh out loud moments aplenty

This is a wonderfully funny story laced with light mystery and intrigue. An easy listen, and one of the fastest finished audiobooks I’ve listened to, as I just couldn’t stop. I’ve not laughed so loudly in a while when reading/listening.

I would highly recommend this author and the narrators.

An intricately plotted story.

A totally captivating book with an intricately plotted story, intriguing characters, a lot of suspense, and an exciting ending. I loved the free horror story and the wonderful dual narration.

A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

Thrilling and fun

A step away from my usual listens, I really enjoyed this book. It could have been set in Wisteria lane - it had all the fun of neighbourhood secrets with a dark undercurrent. It was fun to listen to and it did make me laugh a few times. It really pulled me in and I listened to it in a short time - I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next!

fruitcake

Loved the dual narration of Annalee Scott and Danny Montooth, perfect.

The story is fast paced and action packed from the very first minute. Holly Kelly, her husband, and their triplets move to the rich Laguna Palms in Miami. The cul-de-sac, is full of gossip.
The neighbourhood decides at an HOA meeting to start a fruitcake exchange for the holidays. A different person would cook and bring it to a neighbours each holiday season. Due to a child's toy that is accidentally dropped into a cake, causing a death.
With the deaths piling up, and husbands disappearing , and returning they they aren't the same. The women of the cul-de-sac, are determined to find out what is happening.

A Great Story full of Mystery and funny moments!

Loved the story! I enjoyed how it slowly unraveled. The characters were funny and interesting. The narration was brilliant, especially with both male and female narrators. It made the story more authentic and portrayed the characters' thoughts and emotions very well.

Fruitcake

Another 5 star listen from Leah Orr. The story is fast paced and action packed from the very first minute. The characters are well developed and you can't help loving them, the triplets are funny and well worth a few chuckles. There are multiple stories running side by side and they all combine at the end in a possibly predictable ending but edge of the seat stuff throughout. The free Horror story at the end is an added bonus. The dual narration is excellent and both narrators help to bring the story to life. Highly Recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the author and leave this honest review.
