Entertaining eco/ apocalyptic caper

I actually quite liked it - the narration is excellent. The mix of voices and sound effects works - it’s way more engaging & easier to follow.

There’s been mixed reviews for this book so far but I thought it was an interesting concept with some good twists and a satisfying end.

It’s ridiculously far fetched, and is too obviously based on real life tech brands but if you can look past this it’s a pretty entertaining listen!

Gripping, thrilling, terrifying & hopeful

A big step up from Naomi Alderman, I loved The Power, but The Future takes her craft to a whole new level. A sharp wake up call to big tech dystopia, with an optimistic call to action.

My one criticism is that I wish she gave her POC characters more depth and autonomy. (SPOILERS) Lai Zhen was a bit one dimensional, her immigrant and family backstory enabled her to soldier through what felt like endless struggle, I desperately wanted her to get her own moment, and felt cheated when it never came.

All in all a great read. It wouldn’t surprise me if this is already being adapted for film or tv.

Interesting, amusing and clever twists

Really interesting story that developed at a good pace, placed in a very believable near future. Both thought provoking and entertaining.

Gagged

loved this so much, it had the same exciting vibes as the power, kind of like the power's sister. Great characters, good plot, racy at times, loved it.

A MUST ! 100%

Awesome loved it. Poignant terrifying and reassuring all in one. Characters relatable, and a genuine uplifting novel- which I nearly put done due to the potential for a doom and gloom… which clearly I am holding from . I totally loved it and may even replay!

Witty and hopeful

Surprised myself by finding the smuggled theology more compelling than I’d have expected! Trade mark Naomi Alderman hopefulness and messaging around community, cooperation and coming together to face challenges. Interested to see what she does next.

Couldn’t switch it off! Soooooo good!

Brilliant story. I listened looking for plot holes, each time I thought I found one, there was another brilliant twist.
This needs to be a big budget TV series. A movie would not do this story justice!
