About this listen
A dazzling blend of alternative history and detective noir, with just a dash of fairy tale.
A missing child in a small Transylvanian town could spell trouble for Hungary’s new revolutionary government. Another case for Ferenc Marlowe, pioneer private detective. Soon Marlowe is on an undercover mission to the Carpathian Mountains, where he must contend with the local nobility, Jesuit intrigue, and woods that are full of wolves...or something worse.

Not too shabby!
I received this Audible code in exchange for a review. I enjoyed this book as I love a Detective story, they really capture my imagination. This had quite a lot of religious intolerance, suspicion and a sprinkle of folklore, which sounds more complicated than it was, but fitted the storyline nicely. Good narrator/narration 👍

Took a while, but ok in the end
I nearly abandoned this book about a third of the way in, due to the ponderous religious arguments between the characters, which did nothing for the story. However, when the story did get going, it was quite good. It's a rather different take on the Red Riding Hood story, with plenty of dark twists and turns, but with a strong theme of religious rivalry. The narration was good.
