It certainly was a gift

I enjoyed this book. This is book two in the series and I enjoyed it so much I think I will have to get book one, although not strictly necessary to enjoy this one, it's more for me to enjoy, if it was anything like this one. It was certainly not your average missing child case. The story focused a lot on the home life of the main character but as I both liked the children and they played a big roll in solving the case, this worked out great and you really got to know the characters. The story was unusual because it featured one of the characters with Dissociative Identity Disorder (what use to be called a split personality) which was both fascinating as it gave you a better understanding of the condition and scary that something like that happens so often that it has got a name. It tugs at your heartstrings. In fact everything that went on had you riding a roller coaster of emotions with what happened on the case. A great and entertaining story but a scary thought that it could happen.
With money tight ex FBI agents turned private investigator Carolina Caccia and her partner need to find out if a husband is cheating on his wife but Carolina finds herself torn between another case. Somebody leaves a note claiming a child has been kidnapped. Carolina tracks down the parents only to discover the child safe at home but something isn't right and she looks into to it more. Only to discover the same child had gone missing before, with the parents unwilling or able to talk to her she keeps digging. Can she discover who someone thought she was missing? And why did she going missing the first time? At the same time her daughter is acting up and getting into fights can Carolina keep her on the straight and narrow? Or will her new friend lead her into trouble?
I liked the narrator. She used different voices to differentiate between the characters.
