Entertaining and enthralling.
This 4th outing for Dick and Millie was really good, kept me entertained, and gripped throughout, helped along ably by Tom Lennon's narration.
This caper is set in both Atlantic City and across the country in Nevada and this story takes a darker turn as the past comes back to taunt them, Turpin is out for revenge against them and Millie's brother is causing problems so she has to drop everything to go and support the sister-in-law she didn't know she had.
Set in the early 1980s and with a feel not dissimilar to the ABC books by Sue Grafton, the historical detail and the classic PI feeling are great.
I highly recommend this series, reading in order doesn't give anything away which reading out of order does, but the stories are probably just about stand-alone as there is enough information to start anywhere.
4.5 overall

Rich and nostalgic
I highly recommend this book, quite likely my favourite in the series!! The book is rich in details of a time gone by with no computers or mobiles phones, where a type writer is used to write up case notes by the Private Investigator.
A boy has been reported missing, and while Damien and Millie are supporting the police investigation, Millies brother is reported missing alongside a stolen nugget.
With a dual Investigation in play, Damien and Millies relationship will be tested and danger lurks at every corner.

Millie's time to shine - great story
This was another really entertaining listen - it was really good for Millie to have her time in the light and just loved Hershey.
As a non-American I am really enjoying the different locations as it makes a change from the normal.
I also love the retro feel and it just makes me think how far we have come.
I was given a free copy by the author but this in no way influenced my review.

Series and narrator hit their stride - excellent!
This has been my favourite audiobook in the Damien Dickens series, so far. As before, this story picks up from the previous book, but in a less direct sense, which sets the scene for much of the conflict that occurs later in the book. Dick and Millie, as a team and married couple, are put to the test as mysteries crop up and secrets are exposed after being long kept hidden. Meanwhile, a child has been abducted, and Dick's detective skills are put to the test as he puts clues together and makes connections that lead him closer to the boy's safe return.
I feel that, in terms of plotting, Phyllis Entis has most definitely hit her stride in this book. It is excellent, and the balance between personal and professional conflict - two elements that can never truly be separated in a good detective novel - are handled very well. Tom Lennon's narration is also excellent as he captures each character with care and consistency. I would highly recommend this book and series.

Here I am at book 4 in the Damien Dickens Mysteries; only 1 more to go, which is making me feel sad. I've grown fond of Damien 'Dick' Dickens and his wife, Millie, along with the supporting cast of Gus, Bruno and Sarah. This particular story is a little less cosy than the earlier books. There are some very sad and very troubling moments along the way. Once again Millie proves her wit and intellect are more than a match for any man. Being set in the 1980s is lovely. It reminds me of a simpler time, when we used phone books for addresses and looked up information in a library. This series has proven to be a precious gem and I have thoroughly enjoyed every book. I love listening to the cases and Mr and Mrs Dickens resolution of them. Treat yourself to these books, I highly recommend them.

You told me we'd be partners.
Several story lines converge in this rather curious PI investigation set in the 1980s, before the easy access of information through the internet or everyday use of mobile phones. The husband and wife team comprising the Dickens Detective Agency had initially prospered until falling foul of a wealthy and unscrupulous property developer, Derek Turpin. Through his influence, the Agency had been so seriously deminished that now no one sought their help and there remained just one of their original clients. Then their office building was burned down. Time to leave Atlantic city. So it seemed very fortuitous when old friend and original client, Susan, offered them a security job which would require their immediate relocation to Navada. But even before they had time to agree, news came that Susan's nephew and heir to the expanded tobacco company she ran, had disappeared on a skiing holiday under mysterious circumstances. It was the start of a deadly series of seemingly unrelated events.
The main focus of the book is on the characters, not the events. There is a feeling of reality, with blundering protagonists, emotional reactions and personal revelations. And beneath it all, the desire for revenge. This is the first in the Damian Dickens series that this reader had experienced and it stands alone well; although the depth of background feelings between Millie and Damian as well as the animosity of Turpin is obviously lost, all salient facts are included for this story. Narrator Tom Lennon becomes the voice of Dickens very believably, his deep and pleasant voice telling the story from his perspective with gentle pace and low key emotion, just as the character himself would surely react. He also portrays each of the other protagonists with an individuality, both males and females given distinct and appropriate voicings. A good performance throughout.
Overall, the book is quite exciting, if somewhat mostly predictable, with the various story lines intertwined. But it is the character studies which bring the book alive. A personal comment here, though, certainly not related only to this story, but many. As a Brit, it always seems bizarre than someone can empty a gun-full of bullets into another and still seem to suffer no consequence other than, perhaps, a gentle reprimand. Ah, well. Vive la difference.
My thanks to the rights holder of The Gold Dragon Caper, who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy of the book, via Audiobook Boom. It was an enjoyable listen, a gentle thriller really brought alive by an excellent narrative performance.

A Very Engaging Listen.
This is a new writer for me and I was very impressed. The characters are all well rounded and very believable. The story unfolds with many twists and turns making for a very engaging listen. The narration is at just the right pace adding to the enjoyment. I listened to the book in one session, it was unputdownable. I've put the other books in the series on my 'to read' list.

Hectic this one!
This 4th book in the series was so much more hectic than the first 3. It took a far more dark turn. I kept saying 'one more chapter' until the book was finished last night, I had to know what happened next!
