About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

George Pantis is in a pickle. After walking out on his wife Rosie on Referendum night 2016 to shack up with hairdresser 'Brexit Brenda' next door, he thinks he's got it made - especially when he wins millions on a Kosovan lottery he only vaguely remembers entering. Unfortunately, he's forgotten his password and can't get at his money. Which is a problem because he suddenly has to contend with lots of forceful new friends desperate to know his mother's maiden name.

As things quickly get out of hand, George must make a mad dash from Sheffield to the Adriatic - and into the arms of organized crime gangs who specialize in illegal kidney transplants and heroin smuggling. George is in need of rescue - both from this pickle and from himself. But will his son, Sensible Sid, Brenda and Rosie put aside their differences long enough to help? And might the journey bring this dysfunctional family back together?

A great story with an easy listening narrative.

I have never been disappointed in Marina Lewycka storyline and this was a good one. All the misunderstandings and idiosyncratic mores of culture, age and experience, delightfully explored. A gem. Thank you.

Such a Disappointment

I suggested this title to my reading group, having very much enjoyed a couple of Marina Lewycka's earlier novels. A particular favourite is "We Are All Made of Glue"—highly recommended. "The Good ..." was something else, such a disappointment, terrible on so many levels, really not worth enumerating here. I have the paperback also, and if I had read rather than listened to it, I doubt I would have finished it. What on earth was Lewycka thinking of?

Silly, slow and ultimately boring

I love Lewycka’s early stuff, but this is real let down. What starts off as social commentary quickly descends into farce. Woefully unbelievable characters, a ridiculous story and zero believability. One to avoid!

Awful.

I waited for her new book for such a long time as she is one of my favourite authors. I returned this book. It was so disappointing.
