Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Enter a vanished and unjust world: Jackson, Mississippi, 1962. Where Black maids raise white children, but aren't trusted not to steal the silver....

There's Aibileen, raising her 17th white child and nursing the hurt caused by her own son's tragic death; Minny, whose cooking is nearly as sassy as her tongue and white Miss Skeeter, home from college, who wants to know why her beloved maid has disappeared.

Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny. No one would believe they'd be friends; fewer still would tolerate it. But as each woman finds the courage to cross boundaries, they come to depend and rely upon one another. Each is in a search of a truth, and together they have an extraordinary story to tell....

Brilliant story

The Help is a moving, emotional, heart-rending story, it immerses you in the lives of black maids in Missisippi and their white employers. The insight it shows into human nature in all it's different facets is outstanding. It immerses you into the era and the lives of the women so much you feel you are living alongside them. The narration is superb, the accents and different voices never differ and it is a pleasure to listen to. Definitely worth 5 stars!

Social history that needs to be heard

Loved this story. The gentle telling of 1960s lives for black and white people in mississippi.
So much has changed, thank goodness. I am ashamed how supremist white folk thought they were and how difficukt it was to break that mould
Well read. Amazing story

Beautiful

I laughed and I cried. I was moved and held in moments of heartbreak and sadness. I was lifted by the bravery, determination, courage and dignity of other characters in this beautiful book.

Brilliant narration!

Not just one story but several good stories going on at the same time which kept it interesting. True to the times. The narration was excellent, sometimes I can't listen to books because the narration is terrible, but this narrator is excellent. Pity there wasn't more!
