About this listen

Prince Liam. Prince Frederic. Prince Duncan. Prince Gustav. You remember them, don't you? They're the Princes Charming, who finally got some credit after they stepped out of the shadows of their princesses Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Briar Rose to defeat an evil witch bent on destroying all their kingdoms.

But alas, such fame and recognition only last so long. And when the princes discover that an object of great power might fall into any number of wrong hands, they are going to have to once again band together to stop it from happening - even if no one will ever know it was they who did it.

Christopher Healy, author of the acclaimed The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom, takes us back to the hilariously fractured fairy-tale world he created for another tale of medieval mischief. Magical gemstones, bladejaw eels, a mysterious Gray Phantom, and two maniacal warlords bent on world domination - all in a day's work for the League of Princes.

A Storming Storm

A phenomenal sequel to the first book. I read these books and laughed out loud. I listened to the audiobooks and almost wet myself! Whether it was the accents or the tendency for sarcasm the narrator brought a new experience to the book. All I can say is well done audible! You have got another happy customer!!

Entertainment galore!

After reading the first book in Hero's Guide series, I had to have the second one. Chris Healy's story, characters, and dialogues are as hilarious as ever, and Bronson Pinchot's performance had me laughing out loud at times. Pinchot does amazing voices and accents for all the characters. (I did wonder why Ruffian the Grey's voice changed from mopey Irish to low caste English, though.) can't wait for the next book to come out on Audible. Three thumbs up!

Fantastic introduction to longer books

My boys are 9 and 7 - so getting much better at sitting still and concentrating, but would still rather be doing other stuff. It's very noticeable in the car ....

This book acted like opium. As soon as it went on, complete and utter blissful silence in the back (yey!) and for good reason. The plot is actually quite complicated, there are jokes that you might miss, stuff happens at speed and ALL THE TIME. I think you'd probably need to be 6 minimum to get a handle on it.

Despite the fact that we were really only listening to The Hero's Guide in 5 to 10 minute bursts (school run, club run etc) the boys clamored for it. Ideally this book should be listened to for longer periods (30 minutes plus) as there are fantastic set pieces that are pretty tricky to turn off at a sensible point. We ended up sitting in the driveway of our house at one point just to find out what happened down the snake hole.

Oddly, this book has made the boys realize that some of our other audiobooks are - umm - short. It's just more fleshed out. You have much more character development, more plot, more action, more everything in fact as it's 10 hours long. I really hope this carries over to their reading.

One small point; both boys commented that the narrator (who is utterly brilliant at voices by the way) has altered his characterization and accent of a couple of the characters from the first book. Not much, but if you are listening to it back-to-back you might notice.

So I'd give this a PG - some exploration of bullying, nastiness and what it means to have friends. Fantasy violence and madcap action. SPOILER ALERT: Warlord of Dar orders henchmen killed at various points, dungeon master suggestive of torture and some blood. Would not disturb years 7 and older. May upset younger or sensitive children.
