Summary

The swashbuckling first book in an explosive new series. Imagine if you lost your parents - not just in place, but in time.

Jake Djones' mum and dad have gone missing and they could be anywhere in the world - at any time in history. Because the Djones family have an astonishing secret, which for years they've managed to keep - even from each other. They belong to the History Keepers: a secret society which travels through the centuries to prevent evil enemies from meddling with history itself.

In the quest to find his parents, Jake is whisked from 21st-century London to 19th-century France, the headquarters of the mysterious History Keepers, where he discovers the truth about his family's disappearance - and the diabolical Prince Zeldt's plan to destroy the world as we know it.

Quite a few recording errors

Overall the book is entertaining, albeit quite simple. Unfortunately there are lots of recording errors, the first half of a sentence repeated a couple of times…

Dramatic

The narrator had a prefect accent for each character. The story kept on the edge of my seat as to what would happen next.

Good, worth a listen

I quite enjoyed the story, not one of my favourites, but still pretty good, definitely worth a listen especially if you like history and Adventure stories, though not fully sure on what earer the story took part in has no good on my history dates or pretty good with my history outside of England unless it's the Romans, Vikings or some general period that might of come up in films or stories.

Maybe I wasn't the right audience...

This was very clearly a book aimed at 12-15 year olds, which I am not, but I generally enjoy a good time travelling adventure so gave it a go.

It was not for me, in this case, and there were a few moments that made me cringe or roll my eyes that I'm pretty sure my 15 year old self might have agreed with.

That being said, it was a decent book. It just wasn't great, and I personally felt it missed the mark.

excellent adventure story for family listening

What did you like most about The History Keepers: The Storm Begins?

really good imaginative story

What other book might you compare The History Keepers: The Storm Begins to, and why?

The Young James Bond series. Though Young James Bond is not such fantasy, the kids loved the young hero/heroine protagonists in both, and the stories also reach out well to adults too.

What about Simon Shepherd’s performance did you like?

Very good story telling (though his american accent is a touch artificial!)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

no

Any additional comments?

really enjoyed it with our kids aged 9+ - good entertainment for the whole family
