Summary
In this audio compilation of the Book of Lamentations, the narrator offers a collection of poetic laments of the Destruction of Jerusalem. Here, we focus on how the collection is partly a traditional "city lament" mourning the desertion of the city by God, its destruction, and the ultimate return of the divinity, and partly a funeral dirge in which the bereaved bewails and addresses the dead. As the narrator addresses this part of the Bible, he makes it clear that the city (and even the original author of the script) had profusely sinned against God, to which God had strongly responded. More than anything, this book depicts the idea that God is not to blame, but rather presents him as righteous, just, and sometimes even as merciful.
