Summary

Escape to Hotel Nantucket for a summer of sunshine, secrets and scandal...

Reeling from a bad break-up, Lizbet Keaton is desperately seeking a fresh start. When she's named the new general manager of the Hotel Nantucket, a Gilded Age gem whose glamour has been left to tarnish, she hopes that her local expertise and charismatic staff can transform the hotel's fortunes—and her own.

All she needs to do is win over their new billionaire owner from London, Xavier Darling—and the wildly popular Instagram influencer Shelly Carpenter, who can help put them back on the map. But behind the glossy façade, complete with wellness centre and celebrity chef-run restaurant, a perfect storm is brewing.

Hotel Nantucket can't seem to shake off the scandal of 1922, when a tragic fire killed nineteen-year-old chambermaid Grace Hadley—and the guests have complicated pasts of their own. With Grace gleefully haunting the halls, secrets among the staff, and Lizbet's own romantic uncertainty, there's going to be trouble in paradise...

Deliciously escapist, full of emotion, and with a dash of Roaring Twenties glamour, this is the perfect listen from the bestselling 'Queen of the Summer Novel' (People).

Entertaining, light, enjoyable listen

I really enjoyed this audiobook and got through the 13 hours quickly. It’s light and inoffensive, perfect for summer holiday listening!

I really liked the characters and as such became invested in the intertwined stories, especially Wanda the 8 year old girl and Grace, the friendly ghost. Even the slight ‘villainous’ characters were a good addition (like Alessadra).

It’s not intellectual or particularly deep so it’ll suit anyone who is in the mood for something light. It’s got all of the summer vibes (holiday island, fancy hotel, summer romances, nods to fashion / social media etc.). This fit what I was looking for when I downloaded it looking for light escapism!

There were a number of annoying playlists listed of music I had to skip over as they went on and on, and some of the writing was a little cliched and cringey but it’s forgivable.

The narrator has a silky voice that’s easy to listen to, although bizarrely the male voices are terrible - they sounded like some of Nancy Cartwrights cartoon young boy characters!

Overall though I was happy with the purchase and will explore what else the author has written.

Disappointing

I was looking forward to this book and pre- ordered, however I found the story bland and contrived.
The structure reminded me of “Hotel” by Alex Haley; snapshots of the staffs’ lives interwoven with details about the daily details of the hotel business. The narrator valiantly attempted different voices/ accents/ genders for each main character, but the English & Irish ones were lamentable.
There were a couple of likeable characters, including the ghost!
It makes for a light, holiday read but for me, rather a disappointment.

Immersing story set in brutal Nantucket

I loved this book ,I have never been to this area but after listening to this book with its descriptive narrative of both the people and the season through the eyes of each character I want to visit .it has a gentle pace which intertwines character stories with the overall will the hotel do well .The narrator was perfect she hit the right rhythm all the way through .I listened to this whilst on a 5 day holiday and only wished I could book my next holiday at the hotel Nantucket as it felt so real .

A bit cheesy but pleasant

The tale is a bit cheesy with presictable characterisation. But pleasant enough for light holiday listening

Lovely story but wan't loving the narrator

Really enjoyed the story but was unfortunately distracted by the narrator, especially all the men's voices just sounded really goofy (like Millhouse from The Simpsons)

Lovely book though, great story - listened to it so quickly.

Utter shite

One of the most predictable, poorly written rubbish I read in a long time. Don’t
