Summary

A collection of Agatha Christie’s stories of the macabre and the occult, where a message from beyond the grave unmasks an insane killer, and a nun has the power to cause a landslide. Read by the prince of darkness, Christopher Lee.

A collection of Agatha Christie’s stories of the macabre and occult.

From the story ‘The Red Signal’ where an omen from ‘the other side’ unmasks an insane killer, to ‘The Hound of Death’ where a convent blows up – and on the remaining wall is left a black powder mark, in the shape of a great dog…

The other spine chilling mysteries are ‘The Fourth Man’, ‘The Gipsy’ and ‘The Lamp’.

The Hound of Death

A mixed bag of stories read marvelously by Christopher Lee. The book is of it’s time but it’s Agatha Christie!

Perfect late night listening

I love Agatha Christie and as I work through her catalogue - knowing that eventually there will be no more - it becomes a real treat to come across a collection of stories to listen to here and there.

Wonderfully narrated and indulgently creepy it's great last thing at night listening.

Worth the time

Being an avid fan of Agatha I am easily swayed into giving her good reviews. Worth the time to listen, before drifting off into the land of nod.

the hound of death

Christopher Lee is at his mellifluos best reading these Agatha Christie supernatural short stories. Enjoy!

Interesting collection, brilliant performance

I find many of Agatha Christie's short stories to be better written than her books. This is a great collection of supernatural stories that are quite different from her Marple/Poirot books. My favourite aspect is the performance from the late Christopher Lee, it offers him a greater range than any of the films I've seen him in.

Spooky !

Christopher Lee is fantastic. He does so many different voices you forget it's one person, even the female voices are good and not in too high falsetto! I liked to listen at night with a candle lit by my bed and my own hound close by... Great for cold evenings by a fireside... Or on warm evenings when you wish it was snowing. This is a masterpiece and Christopher Lee brings the story to life, the fact that he was Dracula in Hammer adds a certain je me sais pas quoi.... Creeeeeaak......

Hound of Death

Probably the best short story collection I've ever purchased - the fact that it was read by Christopher Lee truly enhanced the experience and added to the suspense and sense of foreboding in the appropriate places. Stories like The Hound of Death, Wireless and The Call of Wings alone make the collection worthwhile, while the other nine tales display Christies range and imaginative ability.

Sir Christopher Lee is fantastic

The stories are fine. I'm not going to pretend they're scintillatingly original or spine-tinglingly scary in and of themselves, but none of them is terrible. It's the narration that has had me listening to these on a loop; Sir Christopher Lee has pitched it perfectly.

But this is so BORING...not for me...the audio equivalent of watching paint dry...only not as much fun...
