________
Maya is still haunted by the cabin - deep in the woods, where the trees are so dense it's easy to miss.
She hasn't been there since the summer she was seventeen. Since the day her best friend Aubrey died and Maya's world shattered.
Maya's memories of that summer are fragmented, but there is one thing she knows for sure, and that's who murdered Aubrey. Even if no one believes her.
Now, seven years later, another woman from their hometown has died in the same strange, unexplained way.
Maya knows only she can uncover the truth and save the next innocent girl. But to do that she'll have to go back - back to the forest, back to the house in the pines . . .©2023 Ana Reyes (P)2023 Hachette Audio UK

Very good but a little predictable
I roughly guessed the ending in the first few chapters. Still good though. Will listen again

The house in the pines
Took a while to get into and the thriller aspect nebulous at first. There is something old fashioned about the premise that wasn’t a problem with links to America’s problems with the medical system, over medication etc. There isn’t a fully closed ending but the protagonist does have answers.

The house in the pines
Interesting story with twists along the way, just took a little too long for me to get to the point.

Ok book
The book was ok, it felt a little dragged out and lacked the excitement/suspense you’d expect from a thriller.

Quite good, dragged on a bit
I guessed early on what was happening but still enjoyed hearing it played out. The story skips back and forth in time, which I found confusing, but maybe that was the authors intended effect. The narration was excellent. One of the best I’ve heard. Overall, a good experience.

Awful narration! Spoilt the book.
I've given the story 4 stars as it was different to my usual books and it was enjoyable. However, the narration was awful, almost robotic with no character behind the voice. Overall I've given this a 3 stars because of the very poor 1 star narration.

Give this a pass
Story wasn’t interesting and, as per other reviews, narration was robotic at times
Give this a pass , hours of your life you won’t get back
