Er!

The history in part one may be sound, but the pronunciation of English and French place names was so appalling it became comical. The narrator of part two (Joan of arc) must have been there, the description of facial gestures of the heroine were something else.

solid guide

I highly recommend this book to all who want to know about how the rivalry between England and France developed and how the rivalry led to war that made it not just a hundred year war, but a war that lasted well over 400 years.

fascinating

The story of this war is made fascinating and, at timese, inspiring by its characters. There is a young prince, dressed all in black, leading his father's army to victory; here are boy kings and fierce queens, prisoners who believe in honor, hailstorms that stop entire campaigns, and a wonderful story of a young peasant girl who changed the course of history

excellent work

The war marked both the height of chivalry and its subsequent decline, as well as the development of strong national identities in both countries.

Terrible

This should have been an interesting story, but the writing is so bad (the narration isn't much better) that It's impossible. How did this mess even get published??!!

successful guide

This is the kind of history book I love. Super detailed, tons of character and setting to bring it to life, and true to the facts. I felt like I learned more reading this book than I did in a lot of the history classes that I paid good money for over the years. Honestly, this book rocks. And I believe I got it for free on Reddit, so that makes it sooooo much better.

delicious guide

This is an enlightening look at a truly troubled/extended period of European history.
Crazy times - thousands of people suffered and died purely because lords and royalty wanted to expand the land (and taxes) they controlled - at the ultimate expense of the average inhabitants.

satisfied

The Hundred Years War was a tangle of people and countries hating each other with the zeal of an 80's soap opera! Thanks to this book, I understand it much more.
