Summary

The Ickabog is coming…

A mythical monster, a kingdom in peril, an adventure that will test two children’s bravery to the limit. Discover a brilliantly original fairy tale about the power of hope and friendship to triumph against all odds, from one of the world’s best storytellers.

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them.

Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Could a myth unseat a beloved king? Could a myth bring a once happy country to its knees? Could a myth thrust two children into an adventure they didn’t ask for and never expected?

If you’re feeling brave, immerse yourself in this audiobook to find out....

An allegory for out times

I resisted this title for some time, touted as a children's fairy tale I expected it to be too babyish for this 42 year old, as a fan of Harry Potter, I worried that it could only disappoint.
I was quite wrong on both counts.
This is JK at her very best, spinning a rich and layered tale of 'monsters', morality and men. Like all good fairy tales it has, its share of tragic and gruesome moments, so know that going in.

If you must liken it to anything from the Wizarding world, think of it as the magnum opus of Beedle the Bard.

Amazing book!

Loved this book, just as great as Harry Potter. Excellent voices of the characters.

The story of the Ickabog is just full of twists and turns, what a fantastic book, by a fantastic author. Stephen Fry is amazing in the telling of this story and has the most enjoyable voice to listen to.

Utterly incredible

This audio book was amazing, amazingly well read and a brilliant story. I would recommend to others to look into other audio books narrated by Stephen Fry as he has a mesmerising voice and is a brilliant narrator.

it was a nice story

a nice story about a monster, does it exist or does it not. well you'll have to read or listen to it to find out.

as always Stephen fry brought Rowling's book alive with his character portrayals. just to hear him read the book was a delight.

it's a children's book but not on the same depth as Harry Potter, if she wanted to she could of made it much more complicated with twists & turns & plots.

it was an enjoyable listen.
