About this listen

A dark family secret

When Alice’s father dies after a tragic hit-and-run, his death stirs up unanswered questions about her childhood. Who was her mother, why did her father never speak of the past, and why can’t she remember anything before the age of seven?

An island cut off

But when she receives an anonymous letter containing a photograph of a refurbished gothic guesthouse surrounded by water, and an invitation to stay, old memories fight to resurface.

Alice has visited before. She is certain of it.

Who will survive?

Convinced the clues to her past lie at the hotel, she checks in. But once on the island, a wild storm rages, waves crash violently into the rocks, and the house is cut off by the roaring sea.

Then two guests are found dead. And the hotel owner is missing. Will Alice ever uncover her secret past?

And will anyone leave the island alive?

An utterly gripping thriller that will leave you listening long into the night! Fans of The Guest List and The Sanatorium will love this nail-biting story.

Creepy tale with twists

Loved this book. Bit slow initially (though needed) but once at the house it was gripping and twisty!

Not new and still unique

It took a bit to get into it even with the story being quite thrilling from the onset. There have been other stories with such plots but still the way this was built was unique and the parallel development in past and present made it very intriguing. It seemed very obvious who might be the person behind and still easy to fall into each rabbit hole and eat each red herring, At the end I wasn’t even sure what I thought at the start anymore. I’m curious to see what the author comes up next I’m already hooked to it.

What a gripping story

Everyone said it was good, and they weren't wrong. It kept me guessing till the end. Very well read but let down your some dodgy editing.
It had an Agatha Christie feel to it. Brilliant from start to finish.

Good but missing something

I did like the story and didn't guess 'whodunnit' but something lacked. I struggled to relate to any character, visualise them or even like them. I enjoyed the twists and turns but would have liked more of a back story on verity and why she ended up like she did.

A modern day Agatha Christie

I really enjoyed this listen. it was macabre enough to be mysterious but not too violent or nasty.
I loved the atmosphere created on the island and the intrigue of the interwoven histories.
Perfectly narrated by Rose Robinson. I shall definitely be checking out other Amanda Brittany novels.

Ok (ish)

The story premise really had potential, but found it disappointing. I worked out who the killer was pretty quickly. The narrator was good at changing accents, however some characters just sounded like they had a cold which I found really irritating and distracting.
Worth a listen but not worth a credit!

good

I liked the story and I kept me guessing but the narration was too quick in parts, jumping from one characters point of view to another without a breath or pause between.
