About this listen
It’s the calm before the storm.
Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan is riding hell-for-leather towards Kadambur to honour Ilaiya Rani Nandhini’s kind invitation—while Vandhiyathevan is hurrying in the same direction, hell-bent on thwarting their meeting. Mandhakini Devi is abducted by ruffianly unknowns towards Thanjavur—while Poonguzhali, her niece, is hastening thither, to rescue her aunt. Peril threatens Sundara Chozhar, confined to his sickbed and at the mercy of Pandiya assassins—while Ilaiya Piratti strains every nerve to protect her father.
Will all three succeed in their quests? Will Arulmozhi Varmar recover from his ague? Will Aniruddhar’s schemes and stratagems save the royal family? Will Azhwarkkadiyaan’s efforts bear fruit? And lastly … will Chozha Nadu be free of the tangled web of conspiracies?
Book 4 of Ponniyin Selvan: The Jewelled Crown sheds some illumination on these tantalizing questions … so read on.

This is your next read!
A book about love, kingdom, deceit, mistaken intentions, all in the backdrop of south Indian history and architecture. What's not to love about this series!
I'm so glad the English translation was made available so this masterpiece could be enjoyed by all.
There are so many Indian books I've listened to that are narrated by Indians living abroad who struggle with pronouncing names, ruining the magic of the books. It was refreshing to hear an Indian accent narrate these books and comfortably slip in and out of Tamil, as the book flowed. That heightened the authenticity of the book, in my opinion.
Amit's voice is soothing throughout the series and it's a pleasure to listen to. There are so many characters in this series and narrator Amit Bhargav uses different voice for all of them making lengthy discussions between many characters easy to follow.
His impression of Vanathi is my favourite. It's not easy for a grown man to sound like a young innocent girl and make it sound convincing. Every time he said 'Akka..' in Vanathi's voice, it brought a smile on my face.
I strongly recommend this book to all! Can't wait to hear more from this narrator.
