About this listen

When Emma Johnson's marriage ended, she found herself broke, pregnant, and alone with a toddler. Searching for the advice she needed to navigate her new life as a single professional woman and parent, she discovered there was very little sage wisdom available. In response, Johnson launched the popular blog Wealthysinglemommy.com to speak to other women who, like herself, wanted to not just survive but thrive as single moms. Now, in this complete guide to single motherhood, Johnson guides women in confronting the naysayers in their lives (and in their own minds) to build a thriving career, achieve financial security, and reignite their romantic life - all while being a kickass parent to their kids. The Kickass Single Mom shows listeners how to:

  • Build a new life that is entirely on their own terms.
  • Find the time to devote to health, hobbies, friendships, faith, community, and travel.
  • Be a joyful, present, and fun mom and proud role model to your kids.

Full of practical advice and inspiration from Emma's life as well as other successful single moms, this is a must-have resource for any single mom.

You NEED to read it

What made the experience of listening to The Kickass Single Mom the most enjoyable?

I really wanted to leave a review because I want to help other women find this book. It is literally a must read for all single or alone mums. I left my husband under difficult circumstances which comes from leaving an unhealthy relationship, now with legal battle for custody, it's difficult not to get down. This book got me positive about a situation I hated. I can't thank the author enough

Who was your favorite character and why?

How do I answer this... This is a book about me, written by my future self, but given voice by Emma. I am very glad I found it.

Have you listened to any of Emma Johnson’s other performances? How does this one compare?

no, but I always enjoy hearing books narrated by the author. I feel like I get more out of the book and that it is easier to understand. I loved her voice, the tempo was just right - a flawless performance.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When I was thinking how miserable I was when I started listening to this book and how much it has helped me to be positive about my situation. Before I wanted to see it in a good light but I had trouble with that - Emma Johnson helped to re-frame my view.

Good

Authors voice was great but story didn’t always resonate. A lot of the practical advice seemed geared towards US listener. In general it’s very good

Inspiringly Modern Advice

Have joined the Facebook page, the podcast and now listened to Emma’s kickass book. 5 years on since I became a single mum and lots I agree with and adhere to. New Man now in my life but lots of advice resonate with me - be your own woman, be financially independent and if you do eventually meet a man again enjoy the pleasures..

Wealthy woman explains how being rich makes being a parent easier.

American, condescending, full of assumptions, focused almost entirely on how making more money will make your life easier as a single mum.

Barely touches upon the relationship you have with your children, creativity, alternative life choices, how to save money, school and your children’s friends, mental health.

If you’re a single American mother who just got divorced and wants to work all the time and become a wealthy business woman, this book is perfect. Anyone else, not so much.

Hideous

Absolutely awful. I had high hopes for this book but I removed it from my library before even finshing it. Clearly designed for a particular demographic of single mums. Patronising, unrealistic and unlikely to translate to a large majority of single mums. Not really anything of substance to be gained here.
