Hard work sometimes but fantastic

I found this book a little hard to follow - why? because it refers back to all the other 3 books and put my many unanswered questions to bed but even though I listened to them all in order and quite recently too, I struggled with who everyone was sometimes.

However this book and story really grabs you from the first and you just want to keep listening while it grows.

I enjoyed all the books - Daniel Weyman is as always fantastic with his Narration and I loved the character of Fermin the best.

I dont know what drew me to this series but it is well worth the listen.

Fantastic last book of the series

What an emotional, enthralling series. The books need to be read in order to follow the various characters. Their stories are pulled together in the last book. May Carlos Ruiz Zafron, RIP June 2020. Adiós

The incredible Carlos Ruiz Zafon

What a fantastic book. It was the last in the series started with The Shadows of the Wind. So sad that Carlos Ruiz Zafon passed away at such an early age. His books will most definitely not end up in the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. I consider all four books as one and this last book of four brings the storey of The Sempere Family, Julian Carax and not forgetting Fermin Romero de Torres to a brilliant ending tying up all loose ends. It also includes Zafon’s own storey (I think) as writer of this excellent work of words put together as a dramatic symphony. I look forward to a re-visit to Barcelona.

If you are listening to this book you are presumably already a convert to this extraordinary and captivating series. Be awsured this episode does not disappoint. A life-affirming and life-enhancing experience. I cannot recommend highly enough.

Masterpiece

This concludes the Cemetery of forgotten books series and wraps up loose ends satisfactorily. But it is a great book in itself and Daniel Weymans performance brings it to life with his interpretation of the author’s wonderful characterisations. The alarming sort of Barcelona under Franco and the recriminations of those caught up in it - A lesson from a great author

Enthralling

While I was sceptical of the setting and the time period is not something I usually listen to, I was enthralled by the story and couldn’t wait for every episode. Thank you for improving by drive times between job sites.

From labyrinth to clarity

It was hard to keep track of the characters and connections at times. Maybe that was added to by the brutality of some (anticipated) scenes which made me stop listening to the book before sleep. But the book is so compelling that I had to go back. so glad I did. Brilliantly weaved, with complex characters scarred by life, and scenes painted so vividly I felt I was sitting just outside looking in. And the narrator couldn't have been better - his voice is made for this and he pitched his characterizations and emotions just right. Some books build brilliantly and the ending is a real let-down. Not this one. It pulled everything together, added even more, and left me satisfied and complete. Genius. and I'm not sure if I'm talking Julian (x2) or Carlos!

A Feast

Absolutely wonderful. With tears in my eyes, I am contemplating beginning the series of four books all over again. I know that I will some day soon.

Gripping - a great finale

I love this series. Shadow of the Wind was captivating; I lost my way a bit with Angels, but was back intrigued by Prisoner.

Labyrinth doesn’t disappoint as a series end. It takes forward several plot lines from previous books, adds more for good measure, including the complex Alicia Gris - a welcome female lead in the series - and ties together loose ends in a largely satisfying conclusion.

There are a few things I remain confused about, and I had to take notes and reread the previous books to remember who everyone was and what had happened, but it’s such a clever, engrossing world.

The narration was decent, but I found there wasn’t enough variation in the voices. Many sounded alike. Having said that, nothing jarred and the tone was good.

I can’t imagine reading this book before the others. Maybe it would work as a stand-alone, but half of the joy is the recognition of the characters and places from previous plot lines. Even the buildings have characters!

I shall definitely reread.
