Summary

Jacquetta, daughter of the count of Luxembourg and kinswoman to half the royalty of Europe, was married to the great Englishman John, duke of Bedford, uncle to Henry VI. Widowed at the age of 19, she took the extraordinary risk of marrying a gentleman of her household for love and then carved out a life for herself as Queen Margaret of Anjou's close friend and a Lancaster supporter - until the day that her daughter, Elizabeth Woodville, fell in love and married the rival king Edward IV. Of all the little-known but important women of the period, her dramatic story is the most neglected. With her links to Melusina and to the founder of the house of Luxembourg, together with her reputation for making magic, she is the most haunting of heroines.

NOT UNABRIDGED

Actually feel like asking for my credit back on this, I like to swap between reading the book and listening while I'm cleaning driving etc but this isn't possible with this audio book even though it says unabridged it isn't, there are chunks missing and those parts are huge when you try to go back to the book it leaves you confused. this is the first time I've been disappointed with an audio book.

This is NOT unabridged

Really disappointed that this book is abridged. Some parts don't make sense as previous sections are missing. A real shame, as it's a great book.

Not unabridged

Great story, too good to to miss half by listening to the abridged. Looking forward to the rest in the series

it is not the full book

That is the only bad thing about it. It is simply not the full book and quite frankly it sucks.

So abridged it didn't make sense

Really disappointing. It didn't make sense and couldn't remember the characters as it was so abridged.

More than a half of the book is missing!

I have been extremely disappointed in discovering that this is not the reading of the whole book.
I like listening while reading the book, but it is absolutely impossible here: so many parts have been cut that the story often doesn't make sense.

Skipping!

Love the story and Tracy-Ann Oberman reads beautifully but parts are skipped over which is disappointing.

I journeyed with the plot, discovering personalities as events progressed.
A well developed story.. I recommend this text to all.

Captivating

What made the experience of listening to The Lady of the Rivers the most enjoyable?

It was wonderfully narrated and so very interesting.

What did you like best about this story?

Putting it in historical context - If you haven't watched The White Queen series then it helps to put this in context - also related to Philippa Gregory's historical novel series The Cousins' War.

Have you listened to any of Tracy-Ann Oberman’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, but would again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could have.

Any additional comments?

Brilliant - one of the best audio books I've listened to.
