Brilliant!

This was fantastic to listen to, took some time out from the Internet, and relaxed to this story. Such a well written novel, and brilliantly read,

Serial Killers and other nasty men

Fairly well plotted. One is soon drawn deeper into complexities of a mystery and a conspiracy. Good on the details of autopsies, procedures and what certain findings indicate about cause of death.
Some interesting characters; it was particularly interesting to read this book in the light of an interview in the Times recently with Patricia Cornwell as a result of which one can spot many autobiographical strands from her own personal experiences which are woven into the novel and which give her principal character, Scarpetta, real credibility.
Written very much with a woman's voice (which makes sense, of course) I was troubled at one early stage in the book that the world seemed to be divided into good guys (female) and bad guys (male) but this view mellowed a little as I progressed.
A reasonably good read for this kind of book.
Very well read by Lorelie King who gives each character its own voice and reflects the moods of each.

disappointed

I've tried very hard to get into this book but it's way too strung out.
lots of extended visits back to her childhood, very indepth technical forensic talk that detracts you from the story.
the narrator does a great job and it's only through her skills I kept trying but even her great talent could not hold my attention.
I got halfway through to try to give the author a chance as she is supposed to be very skilled but sadly it's a huge NO from me and I've given it back. Sadly I wont be getting any more of her books

Big troubles ahead for Kay

Having survived the attack of la Loupe (Jean-Baptiste Chandonne) Kay is struggling when she discovers that Jamie Berger, a prominent New York district attorney is here to investigate her as she is being indicted and under suspicion for the murder of Diane Bray.

Kay turns to her niece Lucy's business The Last Precinct. This is the last port of call when you are dealing with a corrupt system.

On her own and deep in thought Kay is torn between defending her honour or hiding and licking her wounds. Kay starts to see links between the murders linking back to the death of Benton.

Patricia Cornwell

A very good Patricia Cornwell. I have read lots but this one is good, they are probably best read in order to make some sense of the history in them.

This book has a very interesting twist in that it supposedly starts from the end. I liked this style and it worked well.

Lorelei King is a perfect fit for Kay Scarpetta books

This is the 1st Lorelei King I've heard, she is a perfect fit for the Kay Scarpetta books! Clear and distinct voices for each character making it easy and a pleasure to follow. Although this is a long book, it doesn't drag in any way, the story is kept flowing and thankfully Lucy has finally stopped acting like a spoilt brat.
