Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Miss Charlotte Pettifer belongs to a secret society skilled in a very particular art. That is to say—although it mustn't be said too loudly—witchcraft.
When rumours of the long-lost amulet of Black Beryl start to circulate, it is up to Charlotte to make sure this powerful talisman doesn't get into the wrong hands.
Which is precisely what happens when the evil Lady Armitage gets her grip on it.
When Charlotte demands the help of the rakish pirate Alex O'Riley, they both set off to find the amulet.
But there is one problem—pirates and witches are sworn enemies and to be seen with one would surely break the Witchcraft Code?
And that's before sparks begin to fly....
The Princess Bride meets Jane Austen in this joyously romantic caper which follows two enemies turned allies who must uncover a power jewel and may just discover a forbidden love along the way....

not my cup of tea
it was an ok love story of sorts. bit of Oliver twist crossed with pirates. I didn't enjoy it that much, I won't be paying for any more of the series.

Light and funny
This novel is just what you want to listen to as the days get shorter, darker and wetter. The witty heroine, her dashing love-interest and a lovely selection of outlandish elderly matrons kept me smiling throughout. Great narration as well.

Riotous, ridiculous and remarkably good
I read this straight after the first and it is just as good. I really enjoyed Lottie's use of Austen's heroines to make decisions. It makes me want to become a piratic gentlewoman witch! Strongly recommend this series if you are looking for something light, funny and highly readable.

Hilarious, imaginative, and glorious
I stumbled upon this series a while back and fell instantly in love! It's like Jane Austen meets Douglas Adams, with a bit of smutty romance thrown in. The puns are clever and subtle, the characters are fantastic (and fantastical), and the narrator is stupendous. I cannot recommend these enough to anyone who might like a funny Jane Austen novel!

Good fun
A wild and crazy adventure and lots of lighthearted fun. I was rooting for the heroine from the start and you can't help but like the main characters. The narration is perfect. This is not my usual type of audio book - I'm glad I took a chance on it.

Brilliant so different.
A great change from my usual genre. Loved the narrator perfect for the story which showed great imagination, that certainly had me bursting out laughing at intervals much to the surprise of those around me. Onto the next book in the series.

Bloody brilliant!
So India Holten has reminded me, in some ways, of reading Terry Pratchett - that is not a small amount of praise. Her characters were great in this, and with more time I think they’d only develop depth. The humour was great, it just made me giggle. There was an air of danger at times which just balanced things nicely. It didn’t air on the sadness and pathos that some books have but that’s ok, because this wasn’t those books. It was very sweet, touching, funny, romantic, completely daft, heartening and I really liked the characters. I will absolutely be reading more.
