Summary
The Liar's Chair is Rebecca Whitney's stunning psychological thriller debut set in Brighton.
Rachel Teller and her husband, David, appear happy, prosperous and fulfilled. The big house, the successful business... They have everything. However, control, not love, fuels their relationship, and David has no idea his wife indulges in drunken indiscretions.
When Rachel kills a man in a hit-and-run, the meticulously maintained veneer over their life begins to crack. Destroying all evidence of the accident, David insists they continue as normal. Rachel, though, is racked with guilt, and as her behaviour becomes increasingly self-destructive, she not only inflames David's darker side but also uncovers her own long-suppressed memories of shame.
Can Rachel confront her past and atone for her terrible crime? Not if her husband has anything to do with it....
A startling, dark and audacious novel set in and around the Brighton streets, The Liar's Chair will keep listeners on the edges of their seats until the final second has ticked away. A stunning psychological portrait of a woman in a toxic marriage, Rebecca Whitney's debut will show that sometimes the darkest shadow holds the truth you have been hiding from.

Unpleasant characters without exception
The nicest character in the story is a drug dealer. The story was relatively engaging and I did finish it. But if someone had finished off the "heroine" I wouldn't have been sorry to see her go.

Slow start but worth persevering
This book was a really slow start but worth persevering with. Good narration. The character Rachel seemed a really awful person but has the story unfolded you realised why and started to feel for her. Ultimately I really enjoyed this audio book

Brilliant suspense; credible characters
Where does The Liar's Chair rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Probably at the top, because it is beautifully crafted. A lot of suspense novels just tell a story, and the style and use of language is rather forgotten. This book is just so well written it was a delight. It flows, there's good use of appropriate metaphor, pacing and weight throughout the gripping plot. Quite a masterpiece. And I have to say that the reader was perfect.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Liar's Chair?
To say would be giving away the plot!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I shall not say, or spoil it for listeners!
Any additional comments?
Just loved it. More please.

Enjoyable but not gripping
I found myself "having" to read it rather than my usual "must" read it.
LOVED the narration but just wasn't edge of your seat enough for me. No moments of "no!". Limped along. Would describe as a drama story.

Better than Girl on a Train!
Any additional comments?
Wow! How did this woman get herself in such a situation? Often I felt that she should have "looked before she leapt" but the character was drawn to be a confused, needy person. The narrator was perfect. The tension was huge on a couple of occasions. I can thoroughly recommend this and look forward to the next book by Rebecca Whitney.

Excellent descriptions but disjointed and disappointing narrative.
Fantastic narration. I really looked forward to this but disappointing and bored towards the end.
