About this listen

How does a mother protect her child from the unknown?

During a visit to a local theatre, four-year-old Chloe Hollis becomes hysterical. But her mother, Mel, doesn’t realise that this is just the beginning of the nightmare. In the coming weeks, Chloe talks of The Tall Man - of death. At her wit's end, Mel confides in Charles Honeywell, the headmaster at the school where she works. But what Mel doesn’t know is that Charles is linked to what is happening to her daughter.

Will Mel learn the terrible truth? And can she overcome her own tragic past and save her daughter before it’s too late? The Liar’s Promise is a story of past lives and future torment.

Long winded

I found this incredibly long winded and actually infuriating in parts. The villain’s infatuation with quoting Shakespeare in every conversation drove me crazy.

I also found it difficult sometimes to differentiate between the mum and the child’s voice which made some of their conversations difficult to follow.

Overall, I’d say it was “okay”. Not one I’d want to read or listen to again.

Love this book

Mr Tilbury you have (more than) a streak of evil genius creativity that you feed into all of your stories. I love the depth of the characters and how the plot twists in ways that i really didn't see coming.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a thriller with a twist.

Unusual theme

Narrator made the story. It had everything from gruesome, shock, humour. I enjoyed it and it was free! I would have paid for this, unfortunately I’ve used a credit for worse.

Absolutely astounding

I loved this one, it's marvellous, the story is intricate, creepy, sinister, cruel and downright nasty in places, who could want more? The characters are all fabulous, be they evil, innocent or just plain dumb, they are all real enough to pull you in. And I was sucked in with a vengeance, I immediately restarted the book as soon as it finished as I want to savour every moment all over again.

Greg Wagland does a grand job of narrating, as usual.

I sincerely hope that audible will present us with more Mark Tilbury soon, I'm going to need to dig out my kindle otherwise.

Bizarre

Couldn't decide if this was a supernatural horror or farcical comedy. Narrator was an odd choice, very Alan Partridge. Passed the time but won't be looking for other titles by this author.

Different Twisty Murdery

I loved it! The narration definitely made it and I’m glad I gave it ago. Not what I expected after Abattoir of Dreams which made me cry in places but essentially I enjoyed it so much months on I still think of some of the scenes. This will be the same. Well done Mr Tilbury! More on Audible please!

Great story

Not keen on the narration. There was barely a difference between the character voices and the general performance didn’t adhere to pauses where they were needed. General intonation was off.
