About this listen
Meet Rosemary, 86, and Kate, 26: dreamers, campaigners, outdoor swimmers....
Rosemary has lived in Brixton all her life. But now everything she knows is changing - the library where she used to work has closed, the family fruit and veg shop has become a trendy bar, and her beloved husband, George, is gone. Kate has just moved and feels alone in a city that is too big for her. She's at the bottom rung of her career as a journalist on a local paper and is determined to make something of it. So when the local lido is threatened with closure, Kate knows this story could be her chance to shine.
And Rosemary knows it is the end of everything for her. Together they are determined to make a stand, to show that the pool is more than just a place to swim - it is the heart of the community. Together they will show the importance of friendship, the value of community and how ordinary people can protect the things they love.

a bit of a tear jerker
a charming, sweet story where you could guess where it was going but it was worth the journey. I didn't expect to be so touched emotionally, but I was and I enjoyed it. I have put other books by this author on my wish list. Exactly what I need sometimes...a less demanding story which covers the power of communities.

Easy read with a heart
Focused on prevalent themes in the current zeitgiest, like loneliness and mental health, but the story was endearing.

Charming story, dull characters
I chose the lido because I’ve recently started lap swimming again.
The story was charming and I enjoyed the storyline of friendship between Kate and rosemary, and the love story of rosemary and George.
The story isn’t that thrilling, which is fine in a book where the characters can carry the interest. Unfortunately they didn’t for me in this book. the characters were dull, especially Kate who didn’t have much personality. Also disliked the damsel in distress needing a knight in shining armour feel of the book in 2019!!
Good enough for before bed though.

What a lovely story
I couldn’t get into this book from the start, but am so pleased I carried on with it. It had me laughing and crying quite a few times and some parts resonated with me too.
I’ll be checking out more of Libby Page’s books for definite now 😊

Struggled to finish
Pleasant story, and can see why it’s popular but it was a struggle for me to finish it (I only did because it’s a book club selection). Predictable, but that can be nice if you don’t like surprises. Would have been better if it wasn’t based on a real life lido, as it was obvious from the first chapters what the outcome would be. But too sweet for me, but I did manage to finish it.
