About this listen
The best-selling classic tale of a woman scorned, from a much-loved British author.
Ruth Patchett never thought of herself as particularly devilish. Rather the opposite in fact - simply a tall, not terribly attractive woman living a quiet life as a wife and mother in a respectable suburb. But when she discovers that her husband is having a passionate affair with the lovely romantic novelist Mary Fisher, she is so seized by envy that she becomes truly diabolic. Within weeks she has burnt down the family home, collected the insurance, made love to the local drunk and embarked on a course of destruction and revenge.
A blackly comic satire of the war of the sexes, The Life and Loves of a She Devil is the fantasy of the wronged woman made real.

Triggering, satisfying and interesting
The beginning was super triggering for me since I feel like the state of (many) heterosexual marriages is captured very well, sadly, in the beginning of the book. So many recognizable/relatable sentences. Then it starts to get very satisfying. I do love revenge plots >:) And then it goes in a very different direction than I thought. Still not sure if I love this direction, but it's interesting for sure!
I do miss the between-women solidarity a little bit.. I wish there was a bit more hate, fire and brimstone on only the men and not on fellow women. But I guess that was the time as well. Still a very interesting and great book to have read!

Fun feminine book
I was looking for a book similar to “How to kill your family” and found this classic. Narrator a bit annoying but got use to it quickly. The story is fun and evil, made me smile a lot!

very good
loved it. I struggled with the narrator's voice at first but got used to it. the story just got more and more outrageous but I didn't want to stop reading. pointless end to her search of happiness but inevitable. a good read.

Unexpectedly Fascinating
A premise as old as can be with a fascinating twist. Really enjoyed the character development and different take on this kind of story.

Darkly delicious
Brilliantly dak satire that resonates in each decade I revist this brilliant book. Excellent narration, great pace & characterization.

Dated, poor story and not happy at animal treatment
Really regret buying this dated book but cannot return it
Dated, dire story, not happy at the disposable pets, and insulting to women
