Summary

Everybody needs saving sometimes...

For Kate, having a newborn baby means she is almost never alone. But that doesn't mean she isn't lonely. The move from London to Somerset with her husband Jay was supposed be the start of an exciting new chapter. But sometimes she can't help but wonder if she turned the pages too soon . . .

Phoebe needs help. As a mental health nurse serving her community, the wellbeing of her patients has always come before her own. Yet there's only so long she can pour from an empty cup.

Looking for a lifeline, Kate and Phoebe find a sense of community - and each other - through their local river swimming group. But when things get tough, they realise that good friends can both raise us up and stop us sinking.

A sensitive and warm-hearted picture of mental health and motherhood.

Libby Page's novels are always are always like being hugged by a community of characters and this book is no exception. I loved the Lido when it came out and if I dare to say it, I love the Lifeline even more. Despite being a book that soothes and reassures (I listened to it when I was having a difficult few days and it felt like a reassuring lifeline to me!), The Lifeline also manages to address some really important and hard-hitting issues relating to early motherhood and mental health and rung true to my friends' experiences of having newborns. Also I kind of want Phoebe as my friend now.
The audio quality of this book is really high and the story is perfectly paced for dipping in and out when you want some moments of calm and reassurance.
I highly recommend.
