About this listen

Menacing dark fantasy and horror combine in the first book of this listener-acclaimed supernatural series (Gabriel Davenport) from British author Beverley Lee.

Something is waiting for its time to rise.

Beth and Stu Davenport moved to the sleepy English village of Meadowford Bridge to give their young son, Gabriel, an idyllic childhood. But one night, a hidden, ancient darkness shatters their dream and changes their lives forever.

Years later, Gabriel searches for answers about his mysterious past. His life unravels as he discovers that the people he loves and trusts harbor sinister secrets of their own. As the line blurs between shadow and light and he becomes the prize in a deadly nocturnal game, Gabriel must confront the unrelenting, malevolent force that destroyed his family all those years ago.

His choice: place his trust in a master vampire, or give himself to the malignant darkness.

Is there a lesser of two evils - and how do you choose?

A horror masterpiece, superbly narrated.

I've just listened to the new audiobook, narrated by Hannibal Hills. This soon became the audiobook I hadn't realised I NEEDED to hear.

I read the book when it was released, loving it from the first chapter, but listening to layers of the story being superbly narrated was being welcomed back into the dark velvety folds of Beverley Lee's writing. Hearing the characters being lifted from the pages with their arm around my shoulder, saying, 'come on in, take a seat and live this story with us.'...the joys of brilliant narration.

Beverley Lee's craftsmanship is outstanding; as a debut novel, it stands an equal amongst those crafted by 'old masters'.

I only ever intended to tiptoe into a couple of chapters to get a taste, but I literally lost hours as rain lashed at my windows, so absorbed from the very first paragraph. I was snowed-in, cut-off, paralysed with fear, cradling little Gabriel, right there with Beth . . . terrified!

I refuse to give too much away. The Making of Gabriel Davenport drags you into a world a mix with the paranormal, an unlikely family bond, a great historical location and a Reverend whose faith is teetering on the edge of his own hell . . . it holds you there with so much depth of plot twists and plausible characters, that you become very attached to; it's hard to escape. It is a must-read for everyone who loves fantasy, ghosts, and demons, and that's just a gentle nudge to the edge of what this book brings to the reader, kicking and screaming.

Beverley Lee, I salute you; a masterpiece. I bought the Kindle version but shall purchase it in paperback so it can sit on my bookshelf; no doubt to be read every Halloween.
