About this listen

The New York Times best seller, updated and expanded, featuring 15 explosive new chapters.

The previous edition of this now-classic book revealed the existence and subversive manipulations of "economic hit men". John Perkins wrote that economic hit men (EHM) "are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder". In Perkins' case, the tool was debt - convincing strategically important countries to borrow huge amounts of money for enormous "development" projects that served the very rich while driving the country deeper into poverty and debt. And once indebted, these countries could be controlled.

In this latest edition, Perkins provides revealing new details about how he and others did their work. But, more importantly, in an explosive new section, he describes how the EHM tools are being used around the world more widely than ever - even in the United States. The cancer has metastasized, yet most people still aren't aware of it.

Fear and debt drive the EHM system. We are hammered with messages that terrify us into believing that we must pay any price, assume any debt, to stop the enemies who, we are told, lurk at our doorsteps. The EHM system - employing false economics, bribes, surveillance, deception, debt, coups, assassinations, and unbridled military power - has become the dominant system of economics, government, and society today. It has created what Perkins calls a "death economy". But Perkins offers hope: He concludes with dozens of specific, concrete suggestions for actions all of us can take to wrest control of our world away from the economic hit men and help give birth to a life economy.

Excellent

Informative and historical on the US empire expansion but presented in a story format. Enjoyed immensely.

Real history of international relations since 1945

The real story behind the US empire. Confirms what many people have known or suspected, providing real evidence of how exploitations and CIA murders were done. I have no doubt that many people will consider this a “conspiracy” despite all the evidence on the contrary... It takes time to flush the brainwash

Eye Opening

New Confessions of an Economic Hitman contains many historical events familiar to the reader, such as the 1953 US/UK overthrow of Mossadeg and the 1973 overthrow of Salvador Allende, however, Perkins brings additional light to many other EHM hits, such as Venezuela and Ecuador. Perkins sheds additional light on the very real attempt on Hugo Chavez as well as the various attempts to undermine and overthrow Rafael Correa in Ecuador.
The extent of CIA involvement in Latin America is simply mind boggling, and this book offers a glimpse into the very dark world of EHM activity.
Indeed, Perkins was not an employee of the CIA, he was an employee of Maine, a corporation. What matters is the extent to which economic tools are weaponised against countries that do not align themselves with US interests.
The book digresses into a very long tract on Social Justice toward the end, including laying out some arguments for Environmental and Social Governance (although its never mentioned, it is explained in everything but name).
Overall, an insightful and informative tour de force of a dark espionage world many would prefer to believe didn't exist.

Very scary.......

I really can't explain my feelings after listening to this book.... It's very scary and explains a lot of world events from a different perspective..... Thought provoking and worrying..... But I couldn't stop listening and kept thinking 'wow' at regular intervals.....

A Must Read!

Great book with a lot of good information on what is going on behind the curtain.

I've seen a few reviews trying to bash the book, but that's one of the typical tactics to try and discredit the author or the source. There is plenty of evidence and information given and a lot of stuff most will be aware of.

Holy Shit !!!

Holy shit this is good listening !!! Story is fascinating I mean it did depress me at times when I realised some of the situations around the globe kicked off so so so many years ago but my goodness it's pretty dam good. I have a much better understanding of the world we live in and why things tend to unfold how they do. I bet there is an even better book in him about stuff he chose not to talk about just to stay alive. Highly recommend this to anyone with ears and a working brain.
