About this listen
Detective Dave Robicheaux is fighting his demons to overcome his toughest case yet. There's something off about the relationship between mob boss Tony Nemo, local author Levon Broussard and New Orleans poster boy Jimmy Nightengale, and after a vicious assault, it's up to Robicheaux to uncover the truth.
Complicating matters is the sudden death of T. J. Dartez, the New Iberian local responsible for Robicheaux's wife's death, and all are looking to the detective as the murderer.
Can Robicheaux clear his name?

New Iberia Blues audio review
Genius writing and really talented reading. Will Patten bought the writing alive, where if i were reading the book i might be tempted to skim instead of hearing the beauty of the lyricism of James Lee Burkes writing.

great as usual
beautifully written, brilliantly read. i don't like the way this one ends though.
the one problem is that all the robicheaux books are the same. my tip is: leave good gaps between listening to them.

Another great Robicheaux book
Will Patton's performance is a good as ever. Clete Purcel is one of the great characters, always outragous and hilarious

James Lee Burke at his very best
This is a great story that is full of fantastic imagery both surreal and ethereal at times. His characters are well known, well drawn, mystical and sometimes stretching belief. His writing is at his poetic best. The narration was excellent with an array of character voices. Sometimes a back pedal on the dramatic in the narration delivery could have been employed. This has to rate as one of Burkes best books.

Captivating
Good story, very atmospheric. Started really promising, list it a little in the middle. Didn't really understand why in the end. Good characters though and the narration was the best.

Another Robicheax Triumph
James Lee Burke is in elegaic mood with this haunting and doom - laden thriller starring our much loved Louisiana cop Dave Robicheax who knows he can't change the world, but thankfully for us, his loyal and loving readers, the world can't change him either. There are plenty of plot twists, colourful characters and red herrings with some really evil people playing bad with the tarot deck. The imagery is lush, rich and hauntingly beautiful amidst the ghosts and the living in this incredible novel. Best of all, Smiley's back. This is a rich treat to be savoured like a cold beer and a jack back in a dark bar on a sunny day... or maybe a nice ice cream if you're more like smiley!

Absolutely fantastic
Never fails - the description of the area / geography / smells / light / pressure / humidity and characters evoke pictures in my mind I don’t get with any other author. This man can write and this book is fantastic. The narration was also a triumph. I feel
Like I have known Dave and Clete and Alifair all their lives. Bravo JLB bravo.
