Summary
Three years into the Great War, England's greatest asset is their intelligence network - field agents risking their lives to gather information, and codebreakers able to crack every German telegram. Margot De Wilde thrives in the environment of the secretive Room 40, where she spends her days deciphering intercepted messages. But when her world is turned upside down by an unexpected loss, for the first time in her life numbers aren't enough.
Drake Elton returns wounded form the field, followed by an enemy who just won't give up. He's smitten quickly by the intelligent Margot, but how can he convince a girl who lives entirely in her mind that sometimes life's answers lie in the heart?
Amid biological warfare, encrypted letters, and a German spy who wants to destroy not just them but others they love, Margot and Drake will have to work together to save themselves form the very secrets that brought them together.

Narrators can make or break a book
I have read and listened to every book by Roseanna M. White and have loved all of them. This one, however, has been my least favorite. Not necessarily because of the storyline, but because of the narration.
I absolutely MISSED the voice that Liz Pearce brought to each story. She had a way of bringing the characters to life, giving them their own unique personality through the narration. One was distinguishable from the other. I didn't feel that this narrator did that.
Throughout the story, there were many times that it was hard to tell who was talking - Margot, Drake, Dot, Willa - they all sounded too much alike. And unfortunately, Drake's abuelo had a decidedly non-Spanish accent.
I am hoping that the narrator will be back to Liz Pearce with the next book in this series.

A wonderful story
Okay, I had two issues with this. One was about the book itself. I felt like femininity and being "just a housewife was either mocked or made to sound unappealing by just about everybody in the story. While I personally have no issues with characters who want to do something different with their life (I even appreciated Margot's struggle on the subject), It felt like no one appreciated being feminine or homemakers, with the exception of perhaps Dot.
It was very jarring to have a new narrator with a lot of the same characters from two of White's series. While Lyons's voice was pleasant she didn't have the skill with accents the last narrator did. I'd say skip the audiobook and go-to book.
Alright, are you ready for the Positives? So am I.
1. Margot knows what she wants and knows what she needs to sacrifice to get there. Margot doesn't want to get married or have children because she wants a life in academia. I appreciated that she had thought through what she wanted and weighed the cost.
2. Margot struggles spiritually after a devastating event. There are very few of us who will go through life without having a time when we feel God is far away and wonder if He made a mistake. I felt like Margot's struggle was very real, very honest. I also loved that while it was a crisis of faith, she still clung to her faith.
3. Drake Elton is pretty awesome! He's a spy, which is pretty cool to start with, but I love how he went about winning Margot.
4. I loved seeing all the old characters! Aside from the Shadows Over London characters that I expected. There was also a couple of appearances of Brook! It made me very happy.

Great read and listen!
Wonderful book by one of my favorite authors!
I also rather liked the narrator. While she was different from the other narrator, so it took a bit to get used to her, I found her voice soothing and easy to listen to. I didn't have trouble differentiating who was speaking and while soothing she still had emotion.

The Number of Love
This is one of my favorite books of 2020. This author is new to me and the novel was outstanding. Margot is such an interesting character. I enjoyed the courtship between Drake and Margot. The romance was wholesome & clean. The man was truly smitten. I listen to quite a bit of Christian fiction. The way the faith of the characters played out was some of the best I’ve ever read. It felt real. Outstanding performance by the narrator. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

It was a little slow.
The storyline was ok, could have been better if it moved along at a faster pace. I found myself looking for other books to read. The narrator was boring to me. Same monotone throughout the story.

A lovely book! (Including the narration.)
This book is another winner from Roseanna White. I have read some negative reviews about the narrator, and I will say that I almost did not get the audible version because of them. While it would be hard for anyone to match the wonderful narrations of Liz Pierce, this narrator did a fine job. She does not change her voice as much for the characterizations, but she's very pleasant to listen to, and I'm glad that I bought this audio book.

Exciting with wonderful characters!
I have read several of Roseanna M. White’s books and enjoyed every one, but “The Number of Love” is my favorite so far! Romantic suspense! The narrator, Susan Lyons, is excellent, even with a French accent at times. I highly recommend - - 10 STARS
