Summary

Blackmail. Breakups. Boys. Trouble always comes in threes.

Life is different for Jack Moreno. Good. Definitely good. Well, better, anyway.

He’s back in school (although classes are harder than he expected). And his dad is healthy (which means he’s worrying again about things like Jack’s curfew and, oh yeah, grades). And he’s got a great girlfriend (who might, justifiably, be running out of patience with him). And Holloway Holmes is his friend (even though it’s the kind of friendship that leaves Jack wanting more). So, life is good. Better. Definitely.

Except when it comes to money. With his dad still struggling to pay a mountain of medical bills, Jack jumps at the opportunity to make some extra cash. After all, helping a fellow student deal with blackmail isn’t exactly new—just a few months before, Jack handled a couple of blackmailers on campus. With the help of Holmes, of course.

Only something is different this time. Something Jack can’t put his finger on, something that makes him suspect the blackmail is just a cover for something much more serious. And when one of the blackmailers is murdered and Holmes becomes the prime suspect, Jack and Holmes will have to race to figure out what they’ve missed. Before it’s too late for both of them.

Fabulous story enhanced by amazing narration

I loved this story so much! The narrator really gets the voices (in my opinion). The story was twisty and turny and the ending! I need the next one right now!

Mr T and his usual excellent narration...

Great stuff from Greg Tremblay yet again.

📚📚📚 Book Review 📚📚📚

5 stars all the way. Terrific middle story of the trilogy. Yes, I'd worked out who was doing the murdering and why, but the ongoing story in the background? Who is trying to kill Jack? Well, we now know a little more about Jack's family history, and all issues will no doubt be resolved in the final story Where All Paths Meet. As for Jack and Holloway's HEA, I know that will happen too, Greg does love his HEA's.

OMG, wow…

I enjoyed the first Holloway Holmes (and Jack) book and so leapt on this one when it came out. Jack is sort of on the straight and narrow. He’s in school, thanks to some ingenuity on his part. His dad is back working as the janitor and is, for the most part, doing okay. Only Jack’s not satisfied. He wants the latest phone, the coolest clothes…anything that might help him fit in with the rich kids who surround him. In other words, he doesn’t want to be the janitor’s son. Which means, getting up to his old tricks of acquiring difficult items to sell to the rich brats he goes to school with.

He's also sort of with Ariana while pining for the elusive and unreachable Holloway Holmes. His treatment of Ariana was deplorable in the last book and doesn’t get better in this one. In fact, none of the women in this story are represented kindly. Except maybe the police detective.

Police? Oh yeah, because it’s amazing how many scrapes Jack and Holloway can get up to in a short span of time.

This time, Jack is approached by another student to try to sort out who is blackmailing the guy. Only things take a turn when one of the blackmailers is murdered.

The mystery was fantastic and, again, I didn’t pick out the murderer. More is revealed about the mysterious Holmes family and more people are drawn into the overarching mystery of the series.

Although everything wrapped up nicely in this book, they certainly haven’t for Jack and Holloway. I might’ve stamped my foot at the end of the book – mini-cliffhanger and all – and demanded the next book be released on audio RIGHT NOW. I won’t get my wish, but I’m sure Gregory’s got a plan. That writer’s always got a plan.

Shout out to the amazing Greg Tremblay who did such a fantastic job with this great audio. I can’t wait for the next installment. Seriously, guys, please get on that…

A Rollercoaster

I was given this audiobook as an advanced listener.

I have to confess that I had the first audiobook in my library, but had not listened to it yet. Rather sensibly I decided to start with that one before coming to this one and I am glad that I did. I am now hooked on Jack Moreno and Holloway Holmes and we have the great Greg Tremblay narration to do justice to Gregory Ashe's writing.

Here in book two we hopefully have Jack and Holloway back on an even keel after their last adventure but unfortunately not for long. Once again they have been caught in the crosshairs of the police and feel that they have to investigate for themselves and in doing so Jack and Holloway grow closer even though trust is hard for Holloway. However, in seeking the truth sometimes we find out things about ourselves and others that we cannot forget but more importantly can we forgive. Another Gregory Ashe rollercoaster ride has begun.

The storyline is fast-paced happening over a few action-packed days in which we have to contend with the angst of adolescents in a world where parental and peer pressure makes it difficult to know what image of oneself should be presented to the world. It is not just Holloway and Jack but also a few other young people in this story who appear to confuse their parents when the young adult is not the young child they still hold in their minds. Don't think that parental love is always unconditional.

I am glad that there is a book three as the last few chapters were quite painful and I feel that Ashe has a duty to help us resolve some of those feelings

So good I couldn't wait!

This was so good I had to listen to it, even though I finished reading it just a couple weeks ago. I couldn't wait to hear Greg Tremblay bring Jack and Holloway to life, and I was so far from disappointed! For me, there is a lot of emotion in this one, and having that in audio just brought it to the forefront. Some very dark themes throughout, but also Ashe's trademark humor. The chemistry is definitely there, and the mystery is pretty hard to guess. BUT THE END. Heartbroken and counting down the days until book 3

Fantastic

Gregory Ashe has done it again. A book I could not put down and never wanted to end. The Old Wheel is the second book in The Adventures of Holloway Holmes. This series must be read in order but it’s oh so worth it. This book ends with a conclusion to the mystery but an emotional cliffhanger that has me on the edge of my seat.

Jack and Holloway are in such a complicated friendship that is teetering on the edge of something more. This tension was present throughout the entire book until a climactic moment that left me gobsmacked. I have so many questions about what we thought we knew about Jack. The actual mystery was dramatic and full of action and danger. Ashe takes us on an emotional journey into the depths of family secrets and the lengths people will go for those they love.

The audiobook was narrated by Greg Tremblay who does an amazing job. I adore Greg’s voice and how he brings the characters to life and makes the action feel real. This book had me totally engrossed and captivated. I absolutely loved it.

Fantastic 😍

While I found it tricky to get into book 1, the second book gets off to a flying start. I adore the connection between Jack and Holloway. I'd say that, having listened to all of the Gregory Ashe books, with this series hes actually reining himself in and not going over the top with angst or drawing it out, which he's prone to do. This was a great little mystery and I'm sure this series will just get better. Desperate for the next book.
